Mg4 trophy sales drop like a stone!

Whilst waiting for Mg to sort out all the problems before a order one I’ve now changed my mind completely due to new competition.

The BYD Atto 3 is now available from stratstone. The price looks very pricey for an unknown Chinese car but the advertised price has a £4K dealer contribution, so £34k against the trophy at £33.2k. The Atto has metallic paint, electric panoramic roof, HEAT PUMP and most importantly rear passenger lights😂
The spec makes the trophy seriously over priced, which I have always thought. The SE is the only mg to consider buying. I can see some serious discounts on the trophy.

To top it all the Atto is available for immediate delivery and a very competitive pcp.

I’m not sure if I should get the Atto or wait until the end of the year for the Fisker sport at £36k, I do know that the trophy is out of the running unless there is a serious price drop!

Had a test drive last week. Very disappointed, far too austere interior and far too complicated media system. Why do all controls have to be in the media display? Very distracting. Not as smooth, quiet, or comfortable as my ZS EV, or as "nice" to be in, feels very budget. Won't be getting one after all.

I’m considering making a new thread but for now will post here. MG customer service is nil. They MUST start listening to owners because many things are great about the MG4. I asked my dealer Chiswick to ask head office about the issue I have…they refused. Here is the issue- On oil leaking breather tube extension fix their own technician pointed out that all my brake disks were RUSTED! The car has done 2000 miles so assume it’s a manufacturing problem. What’s the forums opinion and if mg customer service read this - what’s yours?

Brake disks will always tend to get surface rust on EVs ... simply because regen means that the brakes get used far less than they would on an ICEV. The solution is to firmly use the brakes, say, once a week (when it is safe to do so).

Plus check the lubrication of the calliper slide pins - they tend to come from the factory with very little grease on them.

Well im on day 2 of ownership and almost 90 miles!

Did a 25 miles each way journey today. A lot if it i did using adaptive cruise on A roads.

I was amazed how little i needed to do as the car accelerated and braked in progress when needed, just needing a little throttle getting out of roundabouts where the cruise picks up sgain.

Im not sure i have brakes as i havnt really used them yet!

Id suggest a bit of low energy recovery and some medium brake applications once in a while or they are going to rust simewhat

Are you talking about the MG4 or the Atto 3?

I struggle to see how it can be either TBH.
I mean, if you rate the hopelessly outdated ZS as better than the 4 or Otto, what else is there to say…?
The ZS is all about ‘old’, same as the pre-facelift 5.
Buttons, analogue gauges, low down centre screens and the styling flair of an M+S cardigan.

Just so happens that the atto 3 dealer in Milton Keynes has sprung up next to my old Seat dealership. I took these

The BYD Atto 3 has been available since August last year in New Zealand. I bought one in September and so far have done 14,000 trouble free km. Somebody in this thread made the comment that the A3 is priced like a premium car. Fair comment, and fair to say too that it is a premium car. BYD are now by far the world's largest seller of plug in vehicles (PHEV+EV) despite not yet having launched in the North American market, and have been making EVs for about 12 years now. Testament to their reliability is that BYD taxis are all pervasive in China. So far in New Zealand the A3 has scooped 7 Car of the Year trophys including the most prestigous NZ Auto Writers Guild overall COTY. BYD's Blade battery is generally regarded as being as good as any and better than most, but bear in mind that there are many different criteria to judge batteries by. The Blade trumps the pack for durability and safety. Amongst others, Tesla have entered into a battery supply agreement with BYD, Toyota are reported as having entered into a joint venture with BYD to build EVs after their rather checkered efforts with the BZ4. The Atto 3 is a very good car indeed.

BYDs A3 in stock and available through Arnold Clark in scotland from £36990 but with a £3000 dealer contribution. So basically the same money as a trophy.
Their blade batteries are supposed to be up there as amongst the best in the business, as said by our friend from New Zealand, Tesla and Toyota are looking to BYD for battery supply.
Interesting times, MG are going to have to up their after sales game.

I was mostly impressed with the upmarket interior.

What didnt impress was the following in large chrome letters across the rear

Looks a well put together car, our member from New Zealand certainly sang their praises.
I'm with you thought I'd definitely be looking at removing the badge
