I bought 2022 December model MG5...I assumed that the MG5 app would operate with my car. I feel cheated really that there isn't an app for it, as it only works with the facelift model. Surely MG can do an update that will allow our cars to work with an app, the info that you can get wold be much appreciated.

I don't think the pre facelift has the hardware for an app.

That’s right Jomarth it doesn’t the facelifted car the Mk2as I like to call it, as a lot more stuff than the MK1, and I can tell you after owning both, the App in the Mk2is brilliant, especially on a cold frosty morning and for checking what the state of charge is while shopping etc, the lights are 500% better having said that I had no real issues the the lights on the first one but I know many did, but the first time I went out at night in the new one fitted with LEDs headlights I was amazed.
360 cameras Brilliant, plus the V2L make it a far better car, the interior with lights in the rear and over the vanity mirrors is also a big improvement over the MK1 as is the infotainment system.
On the down side the ride It feels a bit more choppy and the efficiency does so far not seem as good, but only 1800 miles in yet so will improve as the weather picks up I’m sure and both these points might well be down to the bigger wheels and tyres which are so much easier to clean and look nicer, the seats feel a bit firmer but it’s new yet so might soften up after more miles have been done, my old one had over 18500 miles so time will tell the other major point of course is the price, this MK2 facelifted version cost around £5000.00 more than I paid for my MK1 SR on list prices mine one of the first to come here with none of the above and no MG pilot of course but I rarely use that anyhow.
So is it worth the extra I’m not convinced really but all of the extras list above are very nice things to have.

Perhaps the confusion rests in use of the term "facelift".
This peculiar terminology gives the impression that physical differences between the two models are merely cosmetic but that is absolutely not the case as the newer model incorporates updated hardware that hosts additional functionality including App control.

This is a similar situation with the new face lift ZS EV Gen2 was released.
The Trophy 🏆 model was available in two models with or without the connect features.
The connect feature was around another £500 extra in price.
Many asked the question 🙋🏻‍♂️:-
“Can a standard Trophy 🏆 be upgraded via software, to receive the connect features at a later date”.
The answer is a clear NO because the standard Trophy is NOT equipped with the necessary hard ware modules installed at the factory, when the car is first built.
So it’s a combination of both hard ware and soft ware that has been omitted.
The original ZS EV Gen1 for the U.K. market had NO facility for App connectivity either.
But in Thailand the very same car IS equipped with the features to enable a working smart connect App strangely enough.

EU data rules meant they couldn't offer it as was on the Mk1, as it wasn't going to work, the required kit wasn't installed to save a few quid.

Subsequently they did a deal with Amazon AWS to host the data/systems required and ticked the data law boxes for the EU and other markets that don't allow the data to be shipped to China, resulting in the Mk2s being shipped with the relevant hardware, and why the trophy connect models offer amazon music integration.

I agree. But good luck with that. My dealer said flat 'no!'.

I'm not sure why you feel cheated because you assumed something wrongly.

Because....nowhere did it say that the app was not compatible...when it was advertised. I would have waited and bought the later model if that was the case....and I don't see you reason for doing such an inane comment!

Not sure how much research you did before buying but the lack of hardware for the app is very well known. You shouldn't feel cheated though because as I understand it the app isn't that great and you really don't need it. Just enjoy the car.

I have the brochure for the MK1 LR and it makes no mention of any apps. If the plan was to upgrade software for an app at a later data they would have bigged it up in the brochure.

Why no app for the 2022 MG5 non facelift model?

That was the question.
The answer is quite simple the non facelifted car was never designed to have one, so if you need an app then you needed the new MG5 facelifted model Trophy or SE as they are named now
Is that car worth the extra considerable amount of money that is a question only you can answer.
Having owned both would I do it again I’m not sure I would but just for the app well it’s good that’s true is it worth the extra 5-7000 pounds no it’s not.

I'm not sure how you feel "cheated". It never had an app, and was never advertised as having an app.

The only thing I can think of is that many/most EVS do have an app so perhaps this was an assumption for the 5? However, basic research would show that the pre-facelift had no app access.
