Boot not locking until key is away from car.

MG4 Trophy. Sorry if already posted. After 4 weeks of ownership I have just found that after locking car, I can still open the boot. When I leave the key in the house and go back to the car, the boot is locked. Is this normal or another feature for getting the shopping out of the boot?

The boot can be opened independently of the car locking when you have the key on you, just press the boot release, you don't need to press the boot open on the fob, it locks again when you close it.

This is exactly the same as on the last 3 cars I've had. As long as you have the car fob with you the boot will open without unlocking the car and lock again when you shut it. Completely normal.

Technically you should never need to get your key out of your pocket, is the idea.

Lock/unlock via the door button, open the boot when you're in close proximity with the key in pocket.

It's handy for putting shopping in the boot without unlocking and locking to go put the shopping trolley away.

Makes sense now. My last car was 8 years old and never noticed whether this happened or not. Thanks for replies. Myself and my wife are thoroughly enjoying the car here in Northern Ireland.
