What goes from 0-62 in 4 seconds

Yes if it is in the low £40k range it could attract a wide range of people but up at £55-60k there will be a whole different set of customer expectations, particularly with service.

I am hoping these press reports are wrong.

I'm really hoping this new 4wd model hits the streets in the UK before my e-Niro comes to the end of it's PCP in oct. It's the only car around that I think I would change the e-Niro for (given I can't afford to reach up to Tesla MY 4wd levels). Otherwise I'll hold onto it and wait 'till next year, when the field will open up even more (BYD etc). As has been said before, the legacy car companies are simply not in the game any more...

I’ve no opinion of the Z4.
What I do know is I’m surrounded by high earning energy business guys who run all sorts of cars in that price bracket.
Porsches etc etc
They’re interested in EVs too.
I don’t even have to ask them to know what their reaction would be to spending that dough on an MG…
Seriously they would not entertain it

Yeah I catch your drift, I know the type.

It's horses for courses with most cars to start with.

50k can get you an awful lot of Tesla. Or most of a top spec EV6, ioniq5, ID5 etc.

You have to be a certain type of individual to drop 50k on a roadster IMO, lifestyle suiting etc. more so on an unproven brand on the scene (MG) that needs a huge improvement on dealer support and acceptance of problems, and fixing these problems pronto. They can't just expect to relive the MGB days.

I'm not sure the market will react as positively to the cyberster, as it has/is to the MG4. Problems aside.

Personally if I was to have a roadster, I'd want a classic one. A nice 350 SL or something

Completely agree - While service should still be good for the 25-35K car there is a very different expectation for 50k+ cars. Your into Audi etc price range which is a whole different level of experience.

The MG brand would need some very considerable lifting before selling with confidence at that price point. It’s not just the car or the image but the back up and the dealerships that need to vastly improve.
Bang on, the dealership network will have up its game substantially from what I have experienced. I very much doubt a customer of one of those cars would be very happy when calling up to arrange a service and the guy in the Volvo dealership next door answers !!

Got to agree whilst everyone should expect a very good (minimum) level of service, that we know has been sadly lacking in a lot of MG dealers. If you are spending £50-£60k that is another level of expectation of service.
Phoning MG customer service about an issue with your Cyberster to be told speak to your garage we just sell them the car might not wash, and it shouldn't with an mg4 either

It’s not practical enough for me but it certainly looks the business !

Biggest concern about MG for me after reading practically every owner review is that nothing works properly, complaints about LKAS, poor interaction with the displays (being virtually impossible to use while driving) and much worse than expected range, oil leaks and poor dealer service.

After an initial rush, these things would start getting on my wick 😂

Exactly, add the issues we have all seen with the dealership service levels we are experiencing and they really need to up their game... You can put a dog in a gold kennel, but it's still a dog

Yes I think I will stick to hybrids until they sort out these quite serious niggles !

I really don’t get the point with hybrids. I feel it’s just a way manufacturers are clinging on to ICE.
It just builds in more complexity and cost.
On a longer journey you’re better off not carrying all the extra weight and complexity - go ICE if you need this a lot.
On shorter and some longer journeys you’re better off with BEV.
If you’re that concerned about going EV just get an ICE.
No one that i’ve read has ever really put forward an argument for hybrids that makes complete sense.

A hybrids are complete irrelevances now, I can’t believe they still sell 🤷‍♂️
B why would MG dealers being crap put you off all EVs?
I agree with A totally.
But I’ve not experienced any problems with Frasers at Falkirk over the last three years / 2 cars, so I can’t agree with B personally.

Totally agree mate has a BMW 530e, he gets about 18 miles on the battery, if he's on a longer journey his fuel economy is terrible (carrying the battery and electric motor weight)

Not often I agree with this shambolic government, but I’m glad to see the lower the electric-only range of these cars, the more the BIK.
Under 30 miles E range is currently 14%.
Still a fair BIK saving over ICE only though.
That’s what most of these cars are IMO, cynical BIK avoidance mobiles.

The Volvo V60 PHEV I was previously going to be getting as a company car (before Volvo cancelled the order) would have attracted an 8% BIK rate. vs my diesel Insignia company car that would have been a saving of about £100 per month in tax.

(After Volvo cancelled the order my employer fannied about re. the new car list*, so I eventually said "sod it" and decided to take early retirement. That's what led to me getting the MG4) :)

* the straw that broke the camel's back

It’s not just about the widely reported dealer problems, it’s about widely reported very poor electronics, extremely laggy screens and poor real world ranges as referenced in this forum. These widely reported issues may well be resolved eventually, when that happens I may buy one. These things would quickly wind me up, you and others may tolerate it better.

I have gone for a Honda Civic Hybrid, 60 mpg, 0-60 in 6.8 secs (similar price to the Trophy) and proven reliable sensing systems. I still like the looks of the MG4 but it’s not yet mature enough for me.

So get another EV…?
What’s the fixation with the MG that you feel it’s your only option and you have to wait for it to mature, and compromise your existing car choice in the meantime?
