MG5
My wife bought a pre face lift MG5 LR in Dec (I own a 70 plate)
When I set off I always flick the kers/mode to econ & k3, on mine it just says cannot do 3 on 100% (waited to 95%) and off I go. When I did this on my wife's it registered as 3!
Took car into dealer and was with them for 2wks whilst they confired with MG Rech.
Eventually they came back & said there are 2 versions on MG5, ones (like mine that won't allow it until 95%) & another that shows its in K3 'but it's not regenerating until it gets to 95%'
This sounds like hogwash to me, as why have 2 types of car, why point out in manual it cannot do it and importantly how do we know they are telling the truth, as they won't put anything in writing (it will be on the E-records). Any damage to the battery won't show for years. Has anyone experienced this?
In addition we don't have DAB radio, it's greyed out on the screen, here the dealer said that 'China was working on it', but again why? It's not cutting edge tech!

You cannot add to a full battery, therfore KERs only works once there is space in the battery to take the charge.
Yes I know the principal which is why most divert excess power at the 95% level. At work we have laptops to work out of the office, but when in the office they are ugged into hubs that continue to charge... Its known it reduces the life of the battery for sure, but that's the set up

Is there a little box in the glove compartment with a USB wire to plug in for the DAB radio? I thought that was the temporary work around while they wait for the chips to arrive.
My SR will only allow KERS 3 once I get to 95% or below

21 LR which I feel is doing "engine" braking but assumed it wasn't feeding it back into the full battery.

Unless you park at the top of a big hill I don't understand how KERS could damage the battery. You must have used some battery to get the kinetic energy that is being recovered.

Had an MG5 as a courtesy car for nearly 4 months and the biggest thing I miss about it is that it defaults to KERS 2. As the ZS defaults to KERS 3 I also find it SO annoying that I have to flick a switch every time I start the car to get it to 2.

Whereas I wish mine didn't default to 2. I just wish there was something in settings to set that I always want to start on E & 3.

That for me would be the absolute worse setting though! I want comfort and extra miles!

That's E for Economy and 3 for. The highest level of Kers? Isn't that what you're after?
No economy just kills the HVAC and regen is at best 20% efficient and level 3 is way too high I find to be able to coast and level 1 too low for town driving so 2 seems the optimum for me.

I don't coast, I guess. Also, you can over ride the econ button on the HVAC. I drove through France and Spain last summer, up to 38C, on Econ with the car temp at 19C all the way.

OK, so I have a 21 plate SR excite, and have experienced some different antics of the MG5 battery recently with KERS.
During the first year, if I charged to an indicated 100% SOC and hopefully equalised being on the charger long enough, it would not give me regen at all for some miles, would just coast, and trying to switch to KERS3, it would give a warning message, it can't do it. All as expected with a full battery.

However, in the second year of ownership, after an indicated 100% charge and leaving it for hours to equalise, it now allows KERS3 switching from starting off, and also gives full regen immediately.
Something has clearly changed - either it is not doing an equalise, or it is not charging to 100%, as it indicates, or it's degraded in some way but not showing it in range I don't believe. I've only ever used the granny and AC 7.5kW to go to 100% every 2 or 3 months or so, as I don't do many miles.
Has anyone else seen this change of behaviour with KERS at 100%?

MG5 SR
2 years ownership
32000 miles
Mostly 7.5kw plus some 50kw fast charging.
Try an balance once every 2 or 3 weeks.
Charge to 90 to 100% fairly often.
No issues with battery degradation.
Always do the 2 finger twice to put it in Kers 3 and econ.
Average about 3.6m/kwh in tge winter...
Car does not let you engage Kers 3 until it is at 95%

Is it possible that the LR model has a top buffer not visible to the user, so that charging to what is shown as 100% is only say 97% of the actual battery capacity, so there can be some regen allowed to charge the battery above an indicated 100%. ?

I have a 1st gen SR so don't get regen back until down to 96%.

The issue in the OP was that some models prevent setting K3 until batt<96%, others allow the setting but don't do anything until batt<96%.

For me (with 2020 5SR) the new config would be an improvement. I've trained myself to reflex set E & K3 when starting (yes I also wish the was a setting to enable me to set a default E K3, and boy racers to set a default S K1) but it is a pain that on the few occasions I start at 100% I don't notice that the Kers hasn't set - sometimes until 150 miles later when I'm wondering why the m/kwH seems low)

It probably got a software update at the first service?
