Would you buy an MG 4 again?

Regarding sign recognition. Why are people saying they need to turn it off. All it does is show the last speed sign it saw and flash if you go over it. It isn't a problem and doesn't affect the drive. I don't mind it flashing away if I stray over a bit. šŸ˜ƒ

Wonder why MG need to make it flash.
Colleagueā€™s polestar allegedly does the same, he thinks.
Mine doesnā€™t.
So itā€™s clearly a preference rather than a law.

I don't mind it, but you sort of have to train yourself to not get distracted by it.
Especially, it flashes when I go over 60 on a dual carriageway, because as far as I can tell, it treats the "national speed limit applies" sign as 60, even on roads where the limit is 70.

For me the sign recognition is a god send with the amount of 20 mph limits we have around here. When I'm in my home area I have the option to limit speed turned on and it hasn't let me down yet, although it is weird flooring the accelerator and only going 20 mph.

As for the flashing on national speed limit on a motorway/duel carriageway they could easily fix this by linking the recognition to the Sat Nav so guessing that will be a future fix

I must admit I haven't found the switch that makes it obey the limit.

It's in the menu where you choose ACC/TJA ... the one above is Speed Limit Mode or Speed Target (?) Mode - the latter allows for ACC/TJA; the former allows for the maximum (limit) speed to be set.

I switch it off because it lies to you. It sees a 20 mph sign at the end of a side street and tells you that your limit is 20 until it sees something else.

My last straw was when it suddenly switched to showing 40 mph only a few hundred yards after leaving a village and entering a National Speed Limit zone. This went on for 20 miles until we reached the next town. Then it did exactly the same thing on the way back. I finally realised it was seeing the signs informing HGV drivers that the limit on that stretch of road was 40 mph for heavy trucks.

I'd leave it on if it was accurate, but I'm not having that. (All that happened on the first joyride I did in the car the day after I collected it.)

I turn mine off because it is annoying and frequently wrong and besides, knowing the current speed limit is part of driving and paying attention and so it helps me focus when driving to have to notice it myself.
Speed limits in London are a moving target at the moment, on some roads you can go from 20 to 30 then back to 20 as you go from borough to borough. Then we have the LTNs popping up and the speed limit drops in the roads around them

I wouldn't!. The MG4 is a good drive don't get me wrong, but mine still has a few issues that's not been fixed and I can't afford to leave the car in the garage like I did before. Dealerships seem to know next to nothing about their cars. Also more things seem to appear as an issue... so for me no I wouldn't buy an MG again, I've just bought a Skoda Enyaq as our second car, I hope that will be less issue prone.

We are currently trying to reject ours after 14 weeks of them trying to fix it. Talking to finance this week and they are saying they have to fight MG everything for rejection. Car is really nice and would have another but MG customer service is beyond belief. Dealer or MG won't answer any emails or calls now so finance are preparing to go to court with it. Just think MG really need to learn how to deal with customer problems better.

In answer to your post question ā€¦..Yes ā€¦ā€¦deffo! In a position where a retirement looms, so been given a green light from she who must be obeyed, that I can have an MGC (calling it a C as do not like the ridiculous current name of the Cyberster!), whilst I am still in work and earning (think she forgets the fact that I will be paying for itā€¦ā€¦maybe she thinks that any extra I own, may be going to grandkids ha!). Anyway, i digress, the proviso is that when we both retire, muggings here, will need to buy a family car. So what she does not know, that I will sell my Z3 and keep the MGC for my open top motoring šŸ˜. So, back to point, I love my MG4, faults -n-all, and would happily buy another when the time comes. Then whilst she thinks I will sell the MGC, I will actually be selling the Z3 ā€¦ā€¦..gonna miss that car, but I can not run four cars on a RAF pension šŸ˜‚

I have had the MG 4 since November and not been able to use the satnav or remote features. The climate control is unpredictable (set to 23 and it still keeps the aircon on) and the screen flicker and freezes (radio and music froze for an hour on a long trip) from time to time. The garage has not been able to replace the head unit or fix any of the issues.

Am I alone on this and have a dud model or is this a common set of issues? Should I reject it and be done? Some help would be appreciated.
Yes. I would buy another MG4. šŸ™‚

I tried that approach but the dealer said they are at the mercy of MG and that there is no supply of replacement head units available. They have no time line to fix. I think I need to reject and the question is do I try again elsewhere as are these genuine issues or do I have a bad one.
If you can reject do it and go to another dealer (recommended). I just wonder whether the price will have gone up though? šŸ¤”

Hi All, apologies in advance for the long post.

This is a difficult question to answer for me as with most people the driving side of the car is fine except for the preflight setup disabling the LKA and Speed Camera recognition as both are next to useless. We have a Trophy on PCP which we picked up in mid December.

Most of the issues are generally all seem to be around the centre console as the issues are as follows, my gut feeling is the 12v fault maybe also down to the centre console maybe a loose wire drawing current ;-

1. Three times the 12v battery has failed we called AA on the first occasion and bought a 12v booster to keep in the glovebox after that, which has been invaluable as we resolved the others ourselves but took photos of the battery voltage for the dealer The readings where 0.025v on one occasion and 4.66v on the other, the AA had 3v on the first visit.
2. ā€˜USB disk identification failureā€™ message.
3. Radio stopped working, (Item 2 and 3 temporarily resolve themselves when the battery dies say for a week or so)
4. Bluetooth is awful occasionally connects but does not remember the phone and either does not pick it up or wants to pair when you are driving. So if on a trip for work need to forget the old setting and redo again from the start before I leave as more preflight setup.
5. Wireless charging comes up with message that there are other objects in the area when there is only the phone and it stops charging.
6. One of our keys does not have an emergency key which only came to light due to item 1 and our dealer said we had both when we picked up the car which we could not have as we only went to use them when the battery died and they now they want us to pay for another one.

As a side issue we have had a few times when the App has not worked which is annoying but not a deal breaker the most annoying is when you send an address to the car for the satnav it does not receive it.

The car has been in the garage for a total on 13 work days so far 2 x 2 day visits with one for the recall update. The latest was over a total of 9 days firstly 4 workdays as needed it for the weekend so had to pick it up and then return on the Monday, they said the Bluetooth and USB errors had been resolved but informed them on Monday they had not. I left them with the car for another 5 days and picked up on Friday without any of the faults resolved. They have now been told that MG has told them they need to load some software on a USB stick anthey need to get a USB stick before they can do this. They also stated that due to MG being in China it takes a while to get an answer back to any issues due to the time difference. They have said they are unable to do anything about the issue with the 12v battery as it has not done it when in their workshop and they have told me to call out the AA when it happens again and get them to drop off at the dealer.

I have told them to contact me when they have the USB stick to load the software and will keep ringing them to remind them as canā€™t afford to leave the car with them for an extended period anymore.

The dealer will not provide a loan car as they have said they do not have anything available as they are booked out weeks in advance which is extremely disappointing with a car that is only just over 6 months old.

The items listed should be solvable by the manufacturer and the lack of progress on these are infuriating as I canā€™t keep leaving the car with them as we only have the one car in the family and are having to work around them as do not want them to use me as an excuse as not being able to resolve.

If they solve the issues I would heartily recommend the car but at the moment I would not want to put someone else through the aggravation as we seem to be beta testing their software and build quality, the dealers also need to step up and take ownership of the problem and not just pass the buck to China.
Apology accepted. šŸ˜

Picked up mine in April, and apart from the software niggles, I've not had any of the issues you described.

My top software fixes.

1. Infotainment system should remember last source setting. My car decides that I must have the radio intermittently, despite, me selecting USB2 or Android.

2. The vent setting reverts to recirculate anytime the climate control is on. I must go into the main menu into the ventilation control and push the button to change the setting for air flow.

3. Ability to assign a key to toggle thru the drive modes eco, normal, custom, snow etc.

LOL. I can afford a Tesla, but thereā€™s no way on Godā€™s green earth Iā€™d ever own one again. I had a 2022 M3 for six months. Absolutely the worst car Iā€™ve owned in the past 40 years. I ditched it like a hot potato at the earliest opportunity. Build quality was awful (it was a rattle trap), Tesla ā€œcustomer serviceā€ is a bad joke, and the software was the glitchiest, most infuriating POS Iā€™ve ever had to deal with. Never again.
Proving the point that all manufacturers have bad cars etc!

Unless he wants it back, no need.
He can start the rejection process right now, by stating they had opportunity to fix it and have failed to do so.
The ā€˜holy grailā€™ is them admitting they cannot fix the fault on email.
If he has that, kaboom.
My rejection is still going on 2 months itā€™s been sat on my driveway for still leaking oil.engineer visit came last week to inspect independent from finance company how long did your rejection take Iā€™m looking at involving solicitors next i have had to buy a new car and still pay for this mg4 in total from 7 months ownership itā€™s been off road for 4 months.just hope it hurryā€™s along as running 3 cars is becoming costly.

IMO nothing much is going to happen while the car is on your drive.
I forced my rejection along by returning the car + keys + V5 to the dealer and making them sign for it, then sending the signed document to the finance company.
My rejection only took a week or two to be agreed ( an emailed letter from MG finance agreeing my rejection was valid) then about another 6 weeks for all the money to be refunded.
