MG ZS EV
Hi, Yesterday I took delivery of my new ZS EV, on the day MG is awarded Best Value Brand 2020 by Autotrader. So as a new owner and first time electric vehicle driver my buying decision about buying an MG has been confirmed as sensible. But the drive home confirmed my absolute dream of a great experience. The car is everything and more than I expected for the money.
I have been following posts on this site for the past few weeks, some of which have given me a little trepidation.
My vehicle was delivered with all the necessary software updates and the settings that had been agreed with my dealer beforehand so that it did exactly what he had promised. I can now over the coming weeks adjust anything I find I need too.
So after deciding to buy an MG Last September how did I choose a dealer. Well I have had more new cars in my life than I care to remember, choose a dealer that is selling a high number of the brands new cars, that have gained greater knowledge of the brand and it’s query’s. Choose a dealer that is recognised as having the best aftersales. Well thats what I did they won MG Aftersales Rhodium Award.
Buy from a family business who is proud to place their name over the door, so you know who you are dealing with.
The answer was Eric Stead MG.
The car is great the dealer is great I win all round!!

Sounds like you’ve done well. As you would have seen and you’ve drawn references to within this forum, there have been some teething problems, but let’s face it the car is exceptional value for the money. I’ve nearly completed 7 thousand miles of joyful motoring in a little under 4 months. I am really happy with my car regardless of any other niggles. Welcome to the MG owners Club.

I agree, mine is from Eric Stead MG, bought on new regs, just had update carried out no charge, friendly staff.

Hi Phil.......I was interested to hear that you had the updates done......Mine goes in on the 14th July.......I bought mine from Eric Stead MG and took delivery in March......apart from a slight hiccup with the tracking the car is performing great and I will be interested to see how much better it is after the update.....I am very impressed with what I have seen of Eric Stead MG so far.

Hi mine seems to be working as advertised, quite happy with it, haven't had a chance to give it a long run or use any none home charging yet. Nice to just have one soft bong on start up after update

Considering everything that seems to be happening on the software front I think that once this latest update is completed a UK annual subscription arrangement might be an answer going forward. I would not be unfavourable to paying say £150 to £200 a year to ensure we could all take advantage of all the latest updates through our dealer, always assuming the money was spent to meet customer requested enhancements.

I don't mean to be rude, but you must be off your rocker! or have more money than sense if you're happy paying £200 a year just to access any updates that might turn up in the future!! Mind you, I bet a lot of dealers wish we all thought like you do lol!! :ROFLMAO::LOL:

I totally agree.....why should we have to keep paying for updates to a car that was obviously not correct in the first place........MG should take a leaf out of Tesla's book when it comes to updates. After all it's only going to benefit them in future car sales in the long run. So the answer to that one is ....NO.

Why not give the £3000 grant back as well?

That is just being plain silly.......But if a car manufacturer makes a car it is their responsibility to make sure that it is supposed to do what they say it is supposed to do.
Why have they released the same car in Asia with a lot more features on it....e.g Internet connection etc. or do you want to pay to have that fitted as well.......It's going to be a very expensive car by the time all the missing bits have been added to the cost. And btw the £3000 grant comes from the Government and not the car manufacturer.

"And btw the £3000 grant comes from the Government and not the car manufacturer"

I was refering to the grant from MG for being one of the first customers to buy this car.
I hope to be one of the first to get rid of it!

Yes I agree with you, a good dealer is very important. I bought from Brandon MG who are brilliant. The two of us had the comfort update with no charge.

I've booked a test drive for tomorrow with Steads. I've got my heart set on a red one but still undecided as to which trim. I'm leaning towards Excite as I don't like sunroofs and roof bars and not too fussed about leather seats, but I like the electrically folding mirrors and rear camera on the Exclusive. Don't need MG pilot, LKA and LDA or a fast charger as it will be purely a city car used only every few days now I'm retired. I'm too old for larking about with Android auto and don't own an iPhone, so as long as I can get the local radio and Radio 2 stations that'll do for me.

Hope the test drive is all you want it to be just enjoy the experience like the rest of us on this site, I am sure you will order a ZS EV no matter what version and hope you join us here to tell tales

The exclusive does have better safety features for city driving, the for the price it is a bargain. Download ZapMap on to your smart phone or visit the website to see what PodPoint free chargers you have near you so that you can get free charging...

I'm glad we went for the exclusive. Yes it will have some features that we may not use, but some of them will prove useful occasionally. For instance I brought a new "Lawn" home on Saturday!

I'm not normally a fan of sunroofs, but this one has so many options and have been using it quite a lot. Where we used to automatically reach for the range reducing Air-Con button before, we now use natures air flow more. :)

:) Test drive went great today, I took it home and tried it on my drive and although it looks like a bigger car than my Prius, it's actually slightly smaller length and width wise. I decided to go for the Exclusive, in red, for the extras it's a bargain and as someone mentioned You don't have to use the bits you don't need. I went for the protection pack, the ceramic paint protection and a spare wheel and jack kit. I got a free type 2 fast charging lead, a free home fast charger and 3 years free servicing as part of a new MG deal they're offering from 1st July. It will have all the latest updates, including the comfort one. I can't thank Chris at Eric Steads enough for his invaluable help and making the purchase an easy and pleasant one, no pushy sales, I actually asked for the extras he sold me, altogether a pleasant experience.(y) Picking it up next Saturday.
P.s. sorry if I'm hijacking this thread a bit, but it is still related to Eric Steads the OP mentioned. ;)

Sounds like you got a great deal with some options that weren’t even offered to me...☹️

I don't think I really got a better deal than the old one, probably about the same, I only got the reduced £3k government grant and £2.5K FDC off MG, so a -£1.5K difference which probably works out the same as paying for the freebies I got.
