Hi I had a small chip on My windscreen mirror yesterday, what will be the best way to get it fixed please?

I wonder if going down the insurance route may increase the premium? Chip repair at autoglass costs about £225?? or a chip repair at Halfords costs £40??

Any experience ot thoughts on this please?

There are people out there who specialize in windscreen repair, I'd contact one of those people. A quick google search in your area may be fruitful. The repairer will advise if it can be repaired or not.

I pay $100aud excess for windscreen replacement on my car insurance, i have had a couple replaced over the years.

Check your insurance because most of them have windscreen cover which doesn't effect your NCD and often chip repair is free.
Halfords is charging £40 because they will be collecting the rest from your insurance company.
Ah.. the insurance company windscreen damage is £25 but it means I have to claim every year that there is a windscreen damage and potentially excess can go up..

Halfords charging 40 without any insurance involvement..

Are you sure?

I don't think windscreen claims need to be declared, but it may depend on the insurer.

The last chip I had like that was repaired for £25. (Have you misread? £225?)
Arranged by my insurers with their preferred partner.
Autoglass came to my work and did the repair.
Didn't affect the following years premium as its part of the package I had at the time.

But don't you have to claim every year as it is a glass damage when you are up for renewal.. also will it be any better than the DIY fix as I understand the autoglass will just put resin in as well..?

I tried repairing a chip myself with a kit off ebay.
It was hopeless.
Says more about the 'kit' tbh.
Autoglass use pressure to force the resin into the chip.
You wouldn't have known it was there after they had finished.
In my recent experience only a windscreen replacement can potentially affect your premiums.
