Hi again EVers - My media/nav shows outside temperature. My drivers dash screen shows remaining range. However, my car does not charge from my 7kW charger without the doors being locked. when I plug in teh charger it just says connected but not charging until I lock the doors.

Also, When I got the car I charged with the granny charger and got 449v after a full charge - when I got my 7kW charger it went up to 455 - do I have the correct BMS update.

Cheers

The software updates are done in modules. It’s perfectly possible to have comfort 2 and no charge while unlocked. My car is like this. As far as the ‘correct’ bms the latest update is 450v fully charged (battery pack must be left to fully equalise with all items that might use voltage turned off just start button pressed.) If you show 455v you’re on the earlier bms - I too am on this. If it’s performing ok then there’s nothing wrong with the earlier version. There’s much debate about if/when to update to 450v if you’re not having any issues.

Weird bit is the charge with the granny charger gave exactly 449 ?? going to charge and balance tonight on the 7kW charger and check voltage tomorrow, then run it down a bit and do the same with the granny charger and see what voltage is then. Guess I'll get an OBD2 device and see what that comes up with :)

My car (bought January 2021) is the same, Displays 455v & wont charge until I lock it. The car is faultless so I'm hoping nothing gets changed when it's due it's first service.

With a suitable OBD2 device, you can also list all your firmware versions. See this topic:

Mine's the same, 456v and won't charge unlocked on AC. :)(y)

Before the Jan 15th update, I had installed the very next day, my car had the original software and the Comfort 2 update, but would not charge with the doors unlocked.
After the latest BMS update, it will !.
Anybody who tuned into the Pod Cast last night, will have heard Miles Roberts say that all ZSEV’s SHOULD be updated by the dealer when they are submitted for service work.
All car leaving the factory ( arriving at dealers now ) will have the latest software as standard fit !.

So, did a full charge and balance last night - 455V and 162 miles range in Normal and level 3 regen. Looks like I have the old version of BMS. Car is going back to local dealer soon for steering fault so will ask to update BMS whilst it is there. Will let you know what happens.

I heard Miles on the Podcast last night say that all ZS EVs are supposed to get the new BMS Update but if you check my comment a week ago I contacted MG Customer Service Centre and they said that it would only be done by the dealer if the computer information about the car showed that it needed it......So who is correct....because the whole thing is getting my head in a knot.

To charge on AC with the car unlocked you need to have the EVCC software updated. Had the same issue. But be careful, it needs to be installed correctly, mine went to another dealer to correct the cock up that my local dealer did

They can both be right, and I assume that they are. Presumably, for the BMS update (but not many others), every time the dealers ask the computer if the update is needed, it will say yes if it's not at January '21 or later. It's not a safety issue, so owners are not contacted for immediate action, it waits till the next service or other reason that the car is in the workshop.

It looks like firmware updates are going to be a reason to stay with the official dealer network, since presumably third-party service organisations won't have access to the manufacturer's computers. Maybe one day governments will mandate that such access is possible. That could be an interesting fight.
