Hi All,

Does anyone agree that there are still changes to the software needed in order to make the car better. I will kick this off.

1, the mode defaults to normal mode every time the car is switched off and back on.

2, you can not use the satnav or even see it when your on a call. All the buttons are inactive that control it (src and main push button)

3, the settings that you set to your driving convenience default to what ever they were set by MG. For example the forward collision system, I had the sensitivity set to low because of the noise that is reported on this and other sites and by doing so it eliminates the noise. This setting defaults back to "normal". So then I decided to turn off the forward collision system all together and it defaults back to "on" too.

4, hill decent control defaults to off each time too.

These are just a few I can think of. Oh and what is the settings button on the steering wheel actually useful for. I know it brings you to the "steering wheel button setting" on the screen where you can select car, home or smartphone, but it doesnt actually do anything to save you time.

Anyone else have any thing that they would suggest would make the car better.

Thanks

I disagree with you on point 3, regarding the collision system. It should absolutely default to on with normal sensitivity. The whole point of it is to reduce the risk of collision or killing a pedestrian, I don't want to be able to turn it off permanently.

The most annoying thing of all to me is the lag when touching the heating controls, then when it does come on, too late, it goes off almost instantly whilst you're still trying to set the controls! Arghh...

I agree with you, but it would be nice to turn it off for me so I dont hear the scrunching noise.

Isn't the issue that the scrunching noise should NOT be heard on a normal setting? We should not be in the position of having to reduce sensitivity (every time on start up,) to overcome what must be seen as a fault in normal (MG prescribed) settings.

It is what it is, just a lack of engineering to the component in question regarding soundproofing. I'm not going to reduce sensitivity, only to then risk hitting someone pulling out on me or stopping abruptly, just to reduce an occasional very slight annoyance. The annoyance of a possibly wrecked car or people hurt as a result is much greater.

Absolutely true

An oversight in the software design is when in ACC mode the car, while it can read the speed limit signs, cannot limit the speed to the speed limit. However when not in ACC mode it can limit the speed to that read from the signs.

The software was released before it was fully thought out.

It's a Chinese thing, like having 2 buttons next to each other that toggle trough the 3 air outlet options, they both do exactly the same job!, just one doing the reverse direction of the other!! Madness, you only needed one, you don't even know where you're at anyway without stopping and waiting for the laggy graphical display to catch up! And now the range is displayed properly, where the (second!!) clock was, we now have an obsolete toggle switch for showing the range momentarily!!

I used to buy a lot of electronic equipment from China for engineering projects, it was always really low cost compared to western stuff, often a third of the price! It (nearly) always worked just as well as the western stuff too, but the user interfaces and the way parameters were set and such was utterly bonkers compared to western norms!

Anyway, as a result, my cars odd quirks and under developed software doesn't surprise me as much as it does some others, I even find it a little charming! lol!!

Hi Folks,
It is really interesting to see that deficiencies are being highlighted in a clear and objective manner. The MG ZS EV tech. is clearly not the best and I think the more we highlight these deficiencies the more likely we may get a solution.
My earlier contributions on the deficiencies of this car has however been meet by a torrent of criticism that I am being negative. I fear there are some who do not take lightly to any shortfalls in this car being highlighted.
The long and short of it however is that MG seem to be taking their European reviews seriously and better software is likely in the 2021 version. I am however not too sure the Tech hardware in our current ZS EVs will allow for any further substantial updates or upgrades and Internet connectivity continues to be a political problem for MG.

The Chinese can deliver whatever quality we are willing to pay for. Even with a few cut corners, I think the eZS is feature packed and value for money.

The software isn’t finished but I’ve seen improvements made twice already. I believe further refinements are forthcoming.

I love using ACC and mg pilot, I just wish it used regen. Because without regen you’re throwing money away.

I vote for the old GOM toggle to become the heated seat sensitivity control.

Good call for the seat heating adjustment, I would also like to be able to use just the plan fans with heating without it impacting on the HVB...air con I understand like in a normal ICE car.

The old range indicator button, What about using it to show charging status when plugged in on fast or rapid charging, that would be good....

For me the comfort 2 upgrade was a great step forward and got rid of most of the issues I had with the car. I'm really happy with the car now. The one that remains which I feel is a safety issue is the HVAC lag and it disappearing too quickly. It's not something you want to have look at and battle with while you're ment to be concentrating on actually driving.

Agree on default mode setting, screen lag and the too short time for message displays. With ACC and collision avoidance, I find these things are not as clever as they're made out to be and relying on them too much can be dangerous. E.g. when on a main road and passing a side-turning with a lower speed limit sign, the car sees the sign, assumes it applies to the road I am on and then tells me I'm going too fast. Similarly for the collision avoidance with passing e.g. a tree or parked car close to the side of the road without slowing in case it jumps out. Autonomous driving needs a lot more development before it can be safely used.

My car sees a for sale sign and is convinced it’s a conditional speed limit sign.

I had a bad day for collision detection, two false alarms and one time it actually hit the brakes for me (Complete with scrunch). I had a car turning into a side street and I was going around it.

Collision avoidance in my last car was well implemented comparatively. Maybe I need to try low sensitivity.

Ideas for comfort 3
1. Gdrp compliant sim module. Complete with app for remote hvac and charging. Hello mg too.
2. Launch mode. Sacrifice battery for faster 0-50.
3. Whoopie cushion mode. (For kids)
4. Web browser app for infotainment, 0mph only.
5. Adjustable GOM based on either your current or total miles/kWh reading.
