I have an October 21 ZS Exclusive. A friend has warned that the motors on automatic folding mirrors can fail quite early due to the extremely frequent use. On some cars the function can be switched to manual only, ie, to be used only when really necessary. I see nothing in the manual about switching the automatic function off. Has anyone found a way? Has anyone had problems with the motors?

my previous car was a fiesta also with electric folding mirrors I have driven it 300000 kilometers and never encountered problems with the mirrors .. I do not expect that with the bosch mirrors of the mg

It would be useful to be able to switch them off. They can accumulate ice on really cold wet days that can cause problems.

Go in to 'Car' on the main screen, 'comfort and convenience ' then 'other'(top right tab). The auto fold on/off operation is there 👍🏻

Better not use the doors too much either, the hinges might fail due to extremely frequent use. Also be wary of using the cup holder, it's been known to get dirty with frequent use. Probably also explains why BMW and Audi drivers don't use their indicators in case they fail due to frequent use.

Hi,

I've not had any problems on previous cars, however it surely if there were to be a problem wouldn't the warranty would cover any repairs.

This made me think about my kids' cars.

Both my son and daughter have Ford Fiestas that area around 14 years old. Both have issues with their folding mirrors and it's a common problem on fiestas.

It's not the motors that fail, it's the gearing mechanism. I expect there are some plastic cogs that become brittle over time.

You can still hear the motors trying to retract the mirrors and you can see them juddering but they never retract correctly.

I have never had an issue with folding mirrors on any car including the MG ZS. It was very cold here last winter on occasions, the charge flap froze shut several times, but the mirrors were fine.

I haven't had an issue with mine. The 7 Yr warranty gives me piece of mind if anything does go wrong

Had no problem with the wing mirrors on my ZS EV last winter and the car sits on the drive in all weathers.
The only problem I did encounter last winter, was one morning when opening the drivers door, the door handle did not retract on it's own.
It needed a bit of help to put it back in place.
External door handles sticking has been seen by other owners even in the summer time.
This can be rectified by pulling open the affected handle and spraying some lithium / white grease from a can.
Some thing like this would do the job !.
Can be used on door hinges and check straps etc etc.
It will leave a very light white protection firm to help lubricate and protect from moisture.

Was a tip on here last winter, worth a try. Get some of the neoprene draught seal, and fit it around the edge of the hole, so that the cover seals against it when you close it. Does a decent job of keeping snow/water/crap out of the charger ports.
