As I drive through our estate, I have just been noticing the number of houses where the car is kept outside their garage and not stored away and I must tell you that mpine sits on the drive as well. The last time that I had a garage that was used for storage of my car was about 1984! I wonder what assorted reasons we all have or had? These are mine.
One property didn’t have a garage but in the others they have generally been full of assorted stuff like
  • books from a part-time book traders business,
  • stock from a shop we owned but retired from,
  • general stuff still in boxes from moving house about 6yrs ago and not enough space in the present house
  • gardening stuff ( God, how that stuff mounts up!)
One property had a garage at the end of a drive running past the house but it was only wide enough for a mini or Reliant Robin to go down. No bloody good for getting my Audi 4 Avant down!

What are your reasons?

What more could a lad want in a garage (double) 😂
Actually, still trying to clear the garage after using it for years as a storeroom until I retired. I have rediscovered the bike under the accumulated junk 😍. Will the MG ever make it in there ? Never been a car there since it was built - why panic now?

I have a garage next to my 1930s semi-detached house - I share the driveway with my neighbour. The problem is the driveway is just about wide enough to all the MG up it if you take it very slowly, then there's a kink at the top which makes is impossible to turn a modern car into the garage entrance. Agree about the bikes - up to the pandemic I had a ZZR1400PS and R1200GS in there!

I have a whole barn for my bike, what year is the BSA?
It’s a 1954 BSA A10 Golden Flash. It’s first and only owner until I got it bought it new in Aberdeen fitted with an Avon Strealiner fairing which I have also along with his original “pudding basin “ helmet. Wouldn’t it be fine in the same tri coat red paint as the MG ? ( just joking any purists out there😄)

The '50's was the golden era for British bikes, I loved the Beeza, along with Triumph, Norton and loved the looks of Velocette. My first ever bike was a 98cc Villiers engined Sun, with girder forks and 2 speeds - slow and slower.

I rent out lock up garages and out of, perhaps 30 that I let, only 1 or 2 have cars in, but don't tell the council, the PP was for the parking of cars, but everyone wants them for 'stuff'.

Why is it that with cars getting ever bigger, developers insist on making garages the same size as they were before the war? One of life's little conundrums I suppose.

My garage has a shared drive in front of it and it makes the garage a real headache.
Every time I want to backup to it to load up my neighbor has blocked it. Even though there drive is to the right of it.

Perfect for long range Twizzys and the likes perhaps.

I fall outside the norm because my garage is and always has been used for car storage.
It's only a single though so my other car gets priority and the MG5 sits outside.

that's awesome

Hi I've read ,I think from confused.com site that for insurance purposes parking on drive is cheaper than parking in the garage.Reasons been,as stated above cars are often bigger than they where so a tight fit in garage.Parking in such a garage there's more a risk of damage to car,by objects stored in garage or trying to get in and out the car !.

Our drive between house and next doors wall such that you can't get out, well not the normal exit. You would have to climb out the boot 😁.
The garage has doors both ends and was informed the original occupant drove his car through and turned it around in back garden 😂.It must have been a Morris minor or mini. Its only a small garage.I use it as a workshop.

Mine would go in the garage if they fitted.

Who am I kidding No they wouldn't I would put more bikes in there.😆

My parents built a new garage when they moved home (because the one that was already built was a sod to get in to). It's never housed a car unless it was miserable outside, and the car needed work done. The rest of the time, it's been a storage area for motorbikes and any other stuff that wasn't allowed in the house 🤦‍♂️

Not quite so good when its p**ing it down....like is is now 16.00. My de-humidifer will be working overtime tonight.
