One Manufacturer Slashes Prices after PICG Cut

Wonder how long till MG will announce the cut, at current prices its not far off a Skoda Enyaq which has the same range, granted less kit but is a much larger car and would probably hold its value better.
MG have always made a point of offering good value for money cars.
It has prided itself on this fact for a long time.
It's the sector that they thrive in.
The Enyaq is a bigger car with great reviews, but it would need to be in poverty spec to get close to the price of the face lift ZS EV.
I think MG will do something to address the problem, I am not sure what, but I think they will.
Time will tell !.
It would be interesting to know just how many people have cancelled their orders due to the reduction in the PICG grant reduction ?.
Customers who have already placed orders for the Trophy model with certain dealers, have given an assurance that the price prior to the PICG reduction will be fulfilled.

As always, further proof that grants just artificially inflate prices. now direct the money at the charging infrastructure but tie providers to ironclad uptime contracts, and specific criteria for chargers like contactless payments.
And sanctions such as fining providers for not maintaining their charging infrastructure....are you listening BP Pulse!

These types of grants have always been swallowed up by manufacturers instead of being passed on to the buyers. We see the same thing with charger installers now and the OLEV, artificially inflated labour charges. I'll be glad when they take them all away altogether and we see what the real market is.

That's my point. These providers have claimed millions in grants but the reliability has been terrible. Can we really compare instavolt and their ChargePoint chargers with BP pulse or Ecotricity? Thankfully we have progress on the latter. We should boycott BP where possible, as well as the other rip-off merchants like ionity and is it geniepoint that charge you £1 before you take a sip? Latter point isn't about reliability but the market voting with its feet.

Very compelling prices now.....if you are happy to live without a glovebox or proper charging timers etc.....I'm not. All Stelantis cars are compromised.....sadly those new to EV's won't realise until it's too late. Competition is good though!

I'm currently driving an e208 and it's a great car to drive but you're right the glovebox is only useful for eh....gloves and not much else. Can program a charge though via the infotainment screen or via the app.

Very happy with it except I need a bit more room in the back for my elderly dad plus 80 miles more would be nice for holidays.

I'm sure Peugeot and Citroen will adjust their EV prices accordingly. I'm going to see what MG do post PICG reduction before I decide if a ZS will be the next EV on the drive.

We were all set on trading the leaf for an e-c4, mainly due to comfort and height. Mrs has back issues and is struggling with the leaf. We then learned the charger timer only has a start time (not stop) so wouldn't work properly with octopus go. I only want 5p/kwh, none of that nasty 14p nonsense if I can help it.

Still a nice car. timer and the lack of 360 camera, glove box were the main negatives.

MG are increasing their prices in Jan 22, so it's going to be interesting to see how they can lower them on paper.
Has anybody seen this post from Sam ?.
It was brought up in the Monday night pod cast.
Looks like the move to EV's is going to get even MORE expensive after the first of Jan 22.

With the price of used cars hitting record highs, and new car prices staying where they were, I don't think anyone will be surprised to see that manufacturers are planning a 1st January price increase. Due in part to the basic supply and demand dynamic and part to the increased transportation costs, MG will be implementing a 1st January price increase across all models.

MG ZS EV - Long Range £50
MG3
£350
MG5 EV - Long Range
£450
MG ZS (petrol)
£500
MG HS PHEV
£500
MG HS
£600

Naturally, this is disappointing but you can still benefit from the 2021 prices if you order before 31st December. What's more, an order placed now with an accompanying PICG application will (as much as is possible) guarantee the current £2,500, protecting you from a future drop in grant before the cars arrive.

Now for the sales pitch of anyone currently in-market.... We have a number of allocated build slots from cancelled fleet orders from months ago which are months ahead of a fresh factory order. We will be taking fully refundable £250 deposits on any car above to beat that incoming price increase. To give you an insight as to what that means we have:

MG 5 LR Excite - £24,995
MG 5 LR Exclusive - £26,845

It's in the MG5 forum

We've just binned out of a deal for a new ZS EV Trophy because of the grant disappearing overnight - hopefully MG will be able to reduce the prices accordingly although what Miles was saying in last night's podcast made sense about having to discount the whole range on a new model doesn't really make good business sense for MG at the moment (but then again they are losing sales now)...

Here's a thing - Say MG reduce the price of the LR ZS by the same amount as Vauxhall to get the £1500 grant - then that would make the Trophy £2000 cheaper than current price with the £2500 grant. Will the dealers drop the price and let customers who have already ordered have the Trophy at the new price if this was announced before delivery.

And so it begins hopefully many more will follow suit....to blow my own trumpet ('cos no-one else will :) ) I did mention this happened before in another thread about the grant to wallboxes disappearing.

When the price for eligibility for the PICG (worth £2500 now) was reduced from £50,000 to £35,000, quite a few car prices that were 35-40,000 magically reduced to get under the limit.
Also some under the limit were reduced by £500 quid to make up for the drop in PICG from 3.000 to 2,500.

As for a wallbox, EVSE, it is just a box with a switch in it, and a few electronics for the smart bit. Other than profit there is no need for it to cost the best part of a thousand quid.
