Gov Grant

Just spoke to Chorley about the grant reduction.
My car was ordered over four weeks ago and grant application has already gone in.
So I have been told my order for the Trophy model is not subject to any price increase.
New orders for the SE models are NOT affected.
Affected in as much as it's now 1.5k rather than 2.5k

The ZS EV new face lift long range in the SE trim level has not been affected by the PICG reduction in the grant, if I understand the comments from Miles on the Monday night pod cast.
It was the first topic to get covered.
I will insert the link for anybody who would like to see it.

SE is still eligible for the grant but that grant is now £1.5k not £2.5k
Thanks for that correction, sorry.
Orders placed on the 1st Jan 2022 for MG cars, will very likely carry a price increase set by the manufacture.

Sam at MG Leeds has put out what he believes will be the new prices from that date.

"With the price of used cars hitting record highs, and new car prices staying where they were, I don't think anyone will be surprised to see that manufacturers are planning a 1st January price increase. Due in part to the basic supply and demand dynamic and part to the increased transportation costs, MG will be implementing a 1st January price increase across all models".

MG ZS EV - Long Range£50
MG3£350
MG5 EV - Long Range£450
MG ZS (petrol)£500
MG HS PHEV£500
MG HS£600

Just to ruin your Xmas. Here in Malta if (as I did) buy a PHEV or a full electric car you will now get a rebate / grant of €12,000 which is made up of €11,000 for the new car and €1,000 scrappage rebate on old polluting car. I have just received my rebate into my bank account. A lovely Xmas present. Oh, forgot to say that the electric company here installed the new smart meter and control isolator box for free so that my dedicated EO charger could be connected.

I would be EXTREAMLY surprised if MG actually increase their prices in 2022. I think the majority of people buying MG is because its cheap, same reason I used to buy hyundai and people started buying KIA. They have got more expensive the more they sold, MG will go the same, but not yet because a lot of people don't even know MG still exists, I didnt and neither do a lot of people I know. I also rarely see MG's on the road.

There's more competition out next year, the price now of the ZS is not as appealing without the grant or the affinity deal. For me unless it's closer to 20/25k I wouldn't bother.

I think MG should look at the prices some other manufactures are offering? Vauxhall have made significany rops in the price (£3000) on the E Corsa and E Moka! for their latest range (with improved miles!)
May be a useful discussion point when speaking to your dealer ?
Peugeot and Citroen are also following.
looks like removal of the grant is still reducing the prices of EVs?

If MG don't lower the ZS price I doubt they will sell as many in 2022.

I'm half Maltese and lived there for several years. Ev's are ideal there due to congested, slower roads, and a warmer climate. Being able to charge via solar through the whole year is great too.

What happens to those who don't have off-street parking? Most Maltese live in apartments and are limited. Are there any rapid chargers about? I know there are a few 7kw public chargers about as there are at least 2 in my family's village of Birzebbuga. I'm curious as my sister hasn't got a clue what I'm talking about when I ask her. Would like to move back there for retirement. Would be funny to drive from one end of a country to another on a single charge with plenty to spare. 😄

I live on Gozo and electric vehicles are becoming very popular. All apartment blocks have underground garages that you buy in addition to your apartment. If you don't have a garage then you park in street like rest of the world but we now have a pretty good number of street rapid chargers and more to come to satisfy charging needs. I have seen on many occasions electric cables trailing out into the street attached to a Nissan Leaf for example. Here we are not a suing culture like back in England. Here if your trip over a cable in the street and break a tooth or a bone....tough shit, its your responsibility to watch out and look after yourself.
Also the pavements here are nothing like those in the UK. You have to see them to understand.

I only use electric here in Gozo and only need petrol engine if I need to go to Valletta or further but now we have the fast ferry from Mgarr to Valletta in 45 mins. We can now drive from home to the Heliport where they have built a massive carpark, lock the car and jump on an all electric bus that takes us down to the Ferry terminal all free of charge. Also as of September next year all the busses will be free of charge to all citizens that carry an ID card such as myself and a special transport card. All tourists etc will still pay.

Since I had my HS I have only filled up twice and even then the second top up was from a quarter tank full. I topped up 3 weeks ago and tank is still full.

If you do come over to retire then you will find that the price of property has increased.
