For the first time since I collected the car from the dealership, I had the emergency brake kick in whilst driving today.
I was behind a car that suddenly indicated left from a 50mph dual carriageway, to pull onto a not very visible side turning (I thought the car was going off at the next main junction just past this). I eased off and started to brake, and the 'forward collision warning' activated and although the car in front was in the process of turning by now, the emergency brake kicked in and the front of the car lurched as it slowed down and there was a groaning sound from both front wheels. The car didn't stop completely, luckily, as the car behind me was quite close. As I then accelerated away, I flashed my hazards as a courtesy to the car behind.
Has anyone else experienced the emergency brake?

Yep, turned the automatic braking off. The challenge now is whether it beeps at me before of after the wife smacks her right foot to the floor whilst sucking her breath in through her teeth ...

The groaning noise was probably the ABS working - automatically applied rapid 'cadence' braking.

Yes, I have had several incidents when the emergency brakes have been applied, some times for a genuine reason, but strangely at times for no apparent reasons. All a bit weird as this happens in the same places, although it has happened elsware. It is not a new phenomenon to this car, as my previous Volvo's rear overtaker warning light would flash in the same local places. That was not dangerous, but I find it a bit unnerving that this could happen when being tailgated as is a common hazard to us EV drivers who are trying to maximise their range on the open roads, then it would be a far more serious scenario.
Has anyone else had this strange problem as it beats me, as having checked out the local area that causes this I can see no obvious reasons, substations phone masts etc.'

The first time this happened to me was shortly after I had taken delivery, and the noise was new to me, and I innocently said, what was that! to my grandchildren, who with many giggles accused me of farting. and making a excuse by blaming the car. they still think it was me despite my protestations..

I have heard a couple of people mention that the emergency brake his a mind of its own sometimes. I have mine on alert only, which is a shame as its a safety feature that if it worked even 98% would be really amazing as all it would take is once for it to do its job, and it would save a lot of money and hassle of claiming on insurance.

I heard a rumour that EU will phase in all newer cars to have emergency brake at some stage anyway

I wanted security features after accident in Juro. Automatic braking was one of those. I’ve had warnings several time but haven’t had braking yet. Hopefully it will work when needed

First time since I picked up the car in June, I had the car execute emergency braking yesterday. On a dual carriageway, a car pulled out of lane ahead of me and car braked before I could (at 65 mph).

It was impressively fast. I’m sure I could have braked in time but I’m glad it worked. The whole point of wanting safely features validated yesterday.

I would say there is definitely a frequency in those areas that is causing the system to trigger.

Glad it worked like a dream for you. What setting did you have it on? Alert only or emergency brake? I have it on alert only but just wondering if on alert only would emergency brake still kick in if it sensed a proper accident

Its on Normal setting - not Alert nor Sensitive.

Alert will only Alert not brake.

Thanks, in 2 minds, I like the emergency braking idea but having heard some horror stories that people have mentioned on fb groups, not sure if I want it active. decisions decisions

When I had accident last May in Outlander, I was asked if
  • Car supported Emergency braking
  • If it did, did it work.

Sadly Juro model does not have emergency braking so question 2 was irrelevant. I haven't had phantom braking yet so I can't comment on what others have experienced. For me this was first time in over 7300 miles / 7 months and in correct scenario.

Might need to bite the bullet and set it to normal. My logic is even if it saves 1 accident, the time and money saved with not having to deal with a claim will be worth it. Besides I mostly do local so wouldnt be going high speeds anyway

Under 30 mph rear ended someone turning left into a car park but stopped last second on the road.
Took a week for courtesy car to be assigned / dropped. it was taken back the day they wrote the car off even though I hadn’t accepted the settlement figure. Of 3 weeks I only had lousy courtesy car for a week

Ouch cant believe it was that damaged and written off. I did consider the Outlander but was looking to spend £16k not the £27k i paid for HS. I still like the exterior shape and fast charge, but things that put me off was that mitsu was pulling out of uk because of bullying by renault and the dated infotainment system. Seems like their heyday was around 2014-2016. Not sure if you agree?

Loved the Mitsi but
Electric range in 2017 Juro was 23 miles in urban usage at 30 mph. I used to often charge it multiple times. Winter usage - 15 miles. I didn’t buy replacement Outlander due to Mitsubishi pulling out. Big boot, electric heating were good to have.
Not sure about UK exit as is likely Brexit related. They are still in Europe. There are parts related issues already. I’m part of Outlander groups and see posts about long wait times for spares. Glad I went the other way. Exit and price (HS - security models were expensive)
8k difference between used Outlander 3 years 30-40k miles and new HS Phev back in June 2021.

I read an article somewhere it was because of the nissan mitsu renault alliance that mitsu pulled out of uk. Brexit possibly a factor as well. Renault believed the pie was too small for all 3 and flexed their muscle as majority shareholder. Which is a shame, Mitsu didnt become top selling plug in selling junk, I have always liked japanese cars, one of my best cars was the FTO. If Outlander was similar spec to HS even if it was a 2k more expensive I would have gone for Mitsu
