Is it launched yet? Being offered here starting at £28,995 before grant.

Not released yet. It has been reported that MG are prioritising the long range due here in March/April.

i stand corrected - see next post.

From the web site:
"Charging is claimed to take just 36 minutes from a 100w rapid charger..."

Well, which is it, 36 minutes or 100 weeks? If the 100w was meant to be 100 W, then it might actually take 10 weeks or more...

Units matter! And multipliers (like that little "k" for "kilo") matter a lot!

I must say I was expecting the Trophy SR version would be less than £29k.

I was guessing the base price would be something like £3k less than the LR version, which would also give another £1.5k off compared to the LR as it'd be under the given grant limit, taking it to about £4.5k less that the current LR trophy
Looks like we won't be able to upgrade to a new SR version either 😰

2k cheaper, plus the grant, so £3500. LR is now £33,500 MRRP but gets the £1500 FDA.

Yet to be seen if there will be a deposit contribution on the SR.

Oh, I'd read that MG had dropped the LR Trophy price to £31,995 - just checked and the forum post says it's been put back on the MG website to £33,495.

I have no idea how it all works on the MG/dealership accountancy side of things, but doesn't sense say that if a £1,500 reduction (FDA) is given; why don't they scrap the FDA and just make the car £31,999 and then folk get the government grant too. Surely that would result in more cars being sold?

I would have have thought the same. Obviously must be more to it, as doing away with the FDA and dropping the MRRP would make sense

I'm a little confused with the SR ZS, has this got a bigger motor to the LR as it states 130kW when the LR states 115kW?

Good question, was discussed a bit previously when first announced.
The thinking is it’s probably to do with the battery configuration (parallel/series) meaning a different amount of power can be obtained from it. It may also provide a different voltage. We’ve learnt motors are made for a certain optimum voltage, so if the voltage is a bit different that could alter the motors output power.

Exactly the same motor. The difference is down to the voltage of the battery, which is higher on the Standard Range version. Power = Volts x Amps, so even if the current remains the same, the higher pack voltage gives it a higher peak power.

Hi Miles,

what is the result of that higher voltage and higher peak power exactly?

The higher battery voltage would allow for a higher top speed, though that is probably limited by mechanical and road safety considerations, so the top speed is likely limited by firmware anyway.

The higher peak electrical power translates to higher peak mechanical power, which allows for quicker acceleration when you put your foot down to the floor. Conditions allowing, of course.

Looks like the Standard Range is now live on MG website.. £27.5k for SE model (£2k less than the LR).

198 mile range… wondering if that’s enough to do my frequent ish 125 mile (A1/M62) journey to visit the parents.

Anyone else noticed the frequently changing PCP prices/interest % on the MG Finance calculator?

The LR has a 1% drop in the interest compared to the SR, how strange?

The official difference between Short range and Long range is £2,000, so that is how much the 21.5kWh battery difference "costs".
(BTW the usable battery capacity difference is actually 19.3kWh).

I am making wild assumptions here!!!!! But I'm going to do it anyway!
Compared to the old ZS at 42.5kWh, the new Short Range battery is 8.6kWh bigger - so about £1k more expensive.
The old ZS Exclusive could be bought for £21k, so one could say that the new SR Trophy version may one day become available for £22k.... At that point I'll be upgrading to it :)
