MG5 owners only. Post on here what you think of the car.

Negatives, motor is noticeably noisier...
I was walking the dog last night and I heard a car approaching from about a mile off (we're remote). I was surprised that it was my wife in our 5LR. When she stopped and pulled away again I thought it not as quiet as a normal high end modern ice car. I was expecting its motor to have been eerily quiet.

Yeah, no waiting for excess heat from the engine to build up. It just goes to show how inefficient ICE cars are. Heating the car depends on excess, wasted heat from the engine

The ICE heater has to wait for the water in the head to warm up enough for the thermostat to start to open which then allows the cold water in the radiator and heater matrix to then circulate. This effectively dilutes the hot water so prolonging the warming up process.

The EV uses heating elements in the air system to provide instant heat, there is no warming up time to speak of.

I think the ergonomics of the displays could be better designed. I wanted check the date and couldn't find it anywhere. There seems to be lots of information displayed in tiny corners lost amongst other things.

Overall the car is good.

Its been about 3 - 4 months since picking it up. Really find the driving very comfortable. Really enjoying the car over all. I think it's great value for the size / range - I hope MG continues to lead in this area.

Only a couple of negatives.

1. No MG app to tell me the status of the charge and when it's likely to finish. The Osprey app does this - some of the others don't.

2. No "stop charge" type button in the car. A few times now I've gotten stuck to chargers that failed to start but also had already locked the charger cable. I understand I can disconnect it manually but I think the car should have a simple button for this. EV apps seem to crash / error out far more than anything else on my phone.

3. No front sensor / camera. 365 cameras would be really nice.

4. No Dashcam usb port like the ZS

5. Doesn't remember my KERS / eco mode settings.

Low speed creeping was high on the list but thanks to this forum I've figured out how to turn that off (actually switching between the two options dependent on the situation now which is ideal)

Ah how do you turn that low speed creep off?

Maybe for work, but I am doing 14,500 miles a year which is basically "social" miles (more like anti-social). I would imagine that not a lot of people who don't have a company car do more than that.
Before lockdown, I was doing 80 miles a day/400 miles a week round-trip commuting to work. It was costing me over £250 a month in diesel.

Owned my 5 from October 21, as people are pointing out why it's not as good as others, I thought a comparison with the BM I3 as I drive these at work would be of interest.
Range is longer in the standard mg5.
Loads more space.
1/3 cheaper.
Better warranty length.
Sat nav not as good as BM.
More usable boot.
Better wipers.
Better heater (takes along time in the BM and you have to faff about with running options to get it to run warm/hot).
Defrosts easier, even scraping the windscreen of ice is easier in the MG.
For a family looking to start their EV journey there is not a better car on the market unless money is no barrier.

1/3 cheaper.
That is the crux of it, if you want a car with all the features then it will cost more.

For a car which, pricewise, is towards the bottom of the EV market (for it's size) I think it is very well featured and appointed.

For some the grass is always greener somewhere else. They forget that it costs money to make the grass greener.

I echo the above. Really great car that just happens to be an EV. I came from a Kia Ceed SW GT; although I will miss the low-slung sportiness (the car's, not mine) I have decided to embrace the positives. The extra height makes entry and egress easier, I have more ground clearance than I have had in years and no more grounding the front spoiler on kerbs. I am even free of the sickening sound of alloys grinding against the kerb. Do miss the rear courtesy light; I changed the interior lights to LED which has helped, along with the headlights, brake and reversing lights.
Just a technical point (and discussed at some length on the ZS channel) but changing the headlights to LED is actually illegal. Better to change to something like the OSRAM Night Breaker Laser or Philips X-tremeVision Pro150 or Philips WhiteVision ultra high-brightness bulbs and stay on the right side of the law and your insurance since it is regarded as an illegal fitting a bulb technology which is not OME spec for that model and year. I know it is frustrating and if you keep the MG5 until it's MOT it is an automatic failure even though I know that most LED headlight bulbs in a projector headlight system will not produce a light pattern that dazzles oncoming drivers any more than standard bulbs. However, I found replacing the standard "Longlife" ie low-output bulbs with the Osram Night Breakers (that claim 150%+ brightness over standard bulbs) has been really effective and since the MG standard fit bulbs are intentionally low output subjectively the Osrams are twice as bright!

For what I paid for my excite SR it ticks nearly all the boxes, according to WBAC there valuation has gone up by £500 since I bought it 3 months ago. so with just under three thousand miles on the clock I still love it.
Ride is smooth, braking adequate, acceleration more than adequate and about a tent( if the cost to run over my last ICE, even with higher electricity prices. Roomy and comfortable driving position with excellent vision splays. Headlights are dull at night is my only problem and that is easily solved. Cold weather performance took a little getting used to but now I understand it, easy to deal with. Great car great price.

A few quick observations- limited as have only had the car (LR exclusive) less than 24 hours!
I drove back last night from the dealers to my house, via my parents who live 4 miles from the dealer. Cross Country A/ B road trip of 38 miles, used 20% battery (kers 2 and eco mode apart from a very steep downhill stretch descending from the top of the Mendips when I switched to kers 3) which I was very pleased with considering 3 degrees outside temp and heating on. I love the driving position and steering wheel adjustment and was amazed by the auto full beam- I have never had this on a car before and I found it turned on and off at just the right time, although the massive icon to tell you full beam is on is slightly annoying as others have mentioned. I have actually found the infotainment system pretty responsive although the Sat Nav is definitely a bit slower than everything else. Ride feels very comfortable and stable.
I will post more a few weeks in!

Love mine, averaging around 3.5m/kWH which seems Ok for winter. Costing about £1.85 to recharge to full from 45%. Very comfortable and smooth. No complaints from me (still have to try a long journey though, have to see how I get on with remote charging.

I'm amazed at how quick it is to defrost. I assumed to give the same ten or fifteen mins as I did with our ice at the same time. I haven't stood and watched it but it must have taken well under five minutes to clear ice from all windows.
Agreed- The one thing I thought I might miss from my previous Zoe was the app & the ability to preheat. In reality when I am setting out in the morning I just start the car & switch the heater on. By the time I get the gate open the car is defrosted & warm!

I have just passed 1000 miles :)

One thing that has struck me is how cold your right led gets even with the heating on.

Does anyone else experience this?

Hi not sure if this may help I’m now over 10,000 miles in my MG5 and it’s my first winter in an EV so still learning, I tend to drive most of the time in Eco mode, and in this mode if you use Auto for the heating set around 23/24 degrees you will see on the heater control panel the Eco light will be on while in this mode, not sure what this does but I think it cuts down the heat output a little and maybe the fan speed as well, so turn the Eco button off ( no light ) and see if that improves matters for you, when in the auto mode the lights on the heater panel that will be on are - Auto, A/c and Eco so when driving in Eco mode I turn the Eco button off.
In the other modes normal and sport this light on the Eco switch never comes on.

Anyhow you can only try it and maybe feel the difference perhaps I do and my passenger As said it improves when I turn off the Eco button so give it ago and maybe feedback what you find in you car.
One way you can see this taking effect is to switch on the demist function and then back to auto while your driving in Eco mode
