Watched Fully Charged latest You Tube episode and thought what a great idea.

Get rid of all those annoying apps and no more putting funds onto an account - but then I found myself downloading another app and putting my card details in to add funds.

Surely the charging companies have decided to move away from this business model?

I downloaded the app and started adding details just to get the free Ā£50 first month but found nothing in my area so didn't complete the setup.

This business will only work if all the providers are on board but why should they when they can get full price with tap and go.

Similar idea to Octopus Electric Juice which is only pay as you go with a price that varies depending on the provider rather than the fixed price on Bonnet PAYG. Electric Juice does give you an RFID card and has more partners.

Had loads of problems getting this to register on PAYG, it would only allow monthly subs. Contacted them and told it was an error and is now fixed. I do now seem to be able to login and got Ā£15 (not Ā£50) credit from a referral. Sadly, very little coverage here in France (despite the bravado about heaps of EU partners), but OK to have sitting in the EV apps folder in the event of an emergency I guess.
The whole app/contactless card thing drives me mad though as it is completely pointless as public charge stations should just accept contactless payment and bingo, start dumping electrons into the car. It just seems like yet another way for suppliers and/or third parties to monitise drivers; in general, public charging is not cheap (and not about to get any cheaper), so paying any company a commission to process a payment for me (and saving the supplier processing fees) just sits a bit badly with me.

I registered for PAYG but then found that most of the providers anywhere near me were AC 22kW which is on 7kW for a single-phase car, like UK MGs. The Rapid Networks are Shell (for which I have a keyring fob in any case) and Osprey so won't be taking out even the Ā£15 subscription until more networks are on board. Fully Charge I think misrepresented the maturity of the Bonnet - Charging Network relationship. I'm just about as impressed as I was with the theatric performance by Robert Llewellyn's attempt to plug in the charger and replace the bungs on his review of the Gen 1 ZS EV nearly 2 years ago when he suggested it was necessary to kneel in front of the car to do this simple operation. He also made out that the rubber bungs wouldn't fit when this supposedly veteran EV owner replace the rubber bungs in the wrong order when all but a very few premium EVs were using the identical 2-bung system to cover the CCS socket when not chargeing.
