2022 MG5

We will, when all worldwide stock of LHD 5SR are sold (through MG UK) or tweaked to 5LR and sent to UK the only place in the world that has 5LR is on sale. Rest of world will go, or indeed have already gone from 5SR straight to 5 facelift.

I don’t mind the look and shape of the current one, but I would love to have the upgraded interior with the larger infotainment screen and the app. Oh and of course the larger battery. I really like my SR but the long range was released about a month after I got it and I’m a bit envious of the extra range.

Why LHD?

100% agree re the revised interior, better infotainment and the app. The exterior also looks far better but is not a game changer.

I could be persuaded to upgrade to this but it will be a while before it's in the UK and on Affinity.
This is my ultimate devious plan! I have my lr due in march but only plan on keeping it until the facelift version is here and on affinity. I'm planning on bit losing a lot on mine so the upgrade is minimal. All my plans to immediately to crap when it turns out I'm an idiot.....

I’m wondering the same but hard to know how much the LR would be devalued by due to the new model.

Supply and demand is keeping 5SR prices high for now. However when market is flooded with remaining SR and LR and the facelift arrives summer? there will two obsolete models in a very short time on the used market. SR and LR have gone out of production already I believe and only facelift being made. To paraphrase a well know supermarket when they are gone they are gone. there will only be facelift on sale. So on used market there will be loads of SR and the better spec LR. Those who bought on affinity may be considering the good used prices currently as a way to make a few bob or limit loss. If they flood the market the bubble will burst really quickly in terms of used vales particularly for the original SR.

I feel that there will be a very strong used market for these cars, especially lower milage models that haven't been used as Ubers, etc. Sure, everyone wants the latest and greatest model with all the bells and whistles, but the reality is people have a budget and a £15k second hand EV which is family friendly might be the ideal car for many. The same way that a £15k Toyota 'hybrid' doesn't hang around long on 2nd hand market, the MG5 is likely to be the new model for that demographic. More cities will get low emission zones, more people will want to move to EV when replacing their ICE cars, I can't see the market shrinking.

You can almost guarantee that a huge influx of newer, better models will impact current residuals - but it's not as if we're tripping over these cars just now. There are only a few thousand in the whole of the UK (I have no idea of the real number). Time will tell - I'm not too fussed either way, I'll keep this for 5 years or so and move to whatever brand/model is best suited to me at that stage.

There have been loads of EV releases yet "old" EVs are holding value well, despite model changes and upgrades. I don't see that changing. There will be a strong market for well priced 2nd hand EVs for many years as we transition away from the ICE.

Not everyone can afford a new car.

You mentioned flooding the market. I'm not sure the relatively few MG5s that trickle into the country could possibly flood anything, especially as there hasn't been any SR for a while. Please don't tell those still awaiting news of their LR orders that they are out of production already. As for flooding the second hand market I don't think all the current owners will be selling all at once. :)

Also some may not like the new infotainment and control layout.

I found the MG5 easier to control than the ZS whilst driving for hvac settings etc

Agreed to some extent, It wont be the first time I have got it wrong, however given the choice of used SR or a better equipped LR for just a little bit more. I see more used buyers going for the newer model. Biffo's and your point re other electrics vehicles is understood again ,however, its not the same no other manufactures (premium brand particularly) has introduced 2 upgrades to the existing model in such a short time. They don't do that specifically to maintain used market value in the model only upgrading every 3-5 years. Save this post and re read it this time next year. WBAC keeps increasing the offer on my 5SR exclusive because supply (all EV and most ICE) outstrips demand, WBAC current offer £22230 for March 21 exclusive. When the semi conductor problems ease and thousands of more LR are available used and facelift filling showrooms the prices will drop for SR, for sure. SAIC have/are using MG UK for stock clearance of SR/LR and won't bring facelift until we have absorbed the world/factory stock of RHD 5s. The LR is not on sale anywhere except GB/Irish republic? Other RHD markets have gone straight from original SR to facelift. As I said we will see........ rose tinted glasses optional but not for me I will sell as soon as my replacement arrives. and prices hopefully at a premium. If Biffo hold on to the car for 5 years then its all academic really its those who like to change/upgrade to newer model regularly that need to be carful of their timing🤞.

especially lower milage models that haven't been used as Ubers

I've only seen 3 out in the world, the delaers demonstrator and 2 cabbies, starting to wonder if I've purchased the next Prius :)

I've been "MG aware" since about Sept and hardly seen any, of any model round here. One other MG5 on he M3 and I met @EVsince2016 around the new year and saw his.

Mostly seem to be Teslas and Kias and fancy stuff round here!!!
