I finally bit the bullet and went to have a look at the car. I didn’t take it for a drive but had a good look over it. I was offered a good deal on my current car and was almost ready to sign up. What stopped me was probably a trivial thing. No type 2 cable supplied. Only a domestic 3 pin plug. I was a bit taken aback by this. I asked the salesman to throw one in to sweeten the deal. He wasn’t prepared to do that, so I left.

This shouldn’t be a deal breaker and it’s good that you walked away, but give them a call and ask again before you approach another dealer to reconsider the response...

Forget the cable - the cost to change is what’s important. If they’re £150 cheaper than the next dealer who will give you a “free” cable then you’re no better off, you’ve just wasted some of your time.

Where is the best place to buy a cable? My MG ZS EV is being delivered this morning 😀
No type 2 cable though but the offer was still better, as mentioned above 👍🏼

Buy a BMW type 2 cable, possibly cheaper on eBay than the dealer. The bag it comes with is much easier to stuff the cable into than the MG one.

Just make sure it’s the 32A single phase one for an i3 - I don’t know if they do lower rated ones for their PHEVs.

As already alluded to, it's the total cost you need to consider, not just one gesture such as the lead, that can be bought from as little as £80. My car dealer wouldn't throw in the lead either, but the car was priced at £22k for an exclusive with the extra cost Pimlico paint, so they were probably already at the bottom line.

Let us know the deal you were offered and then we can advise how good it was :)

My dealer told me that no EV manufacturer supplies the type 2 cable. I find this very hard to believe. Not everyone has the convenience of home charging.

A lot don’t. Some (Renault) supply one INSTEAD of a granny charger, not in addition.

Maybe not as standard, I don’t know, but for a sale and the sake of £160 I would if asked...

Here we got type 2 and granny as standard.
Atleast from the dealer I used, but I would think it's common for all.

Never known MG to supply cable. Total annoyance but one of the ploys to keep headline price down. Just pretend that they offered you £200.00 less for your trade in and supplied the cable.
