Australian release of 2022 MG ZS EV! Finally…

Ooh that's not too bad. Seeing the Euro prices I was thinking it might be $48k and $52k.

Edit: oh, just realised that's only the 51kWh version so I'd guess the 72kWh version, when/if it comes will be well over $50k.

The LR version will not be available in Australia

Do we know if the other specs are the same as the Uk as it was for the previous model?

eg app, ota updates and v2l.

does this version have front parking sensors?
I talked with my local dealer today and it seems to be the same specs as the UK/Euro SE and Trophy models (called Excite and Essence here) but there won't be a Trophy Connect version. She was still waiting on the full info from MG though.

“The decision has been made to focus on the 51kWh lithium iron phosphate-equipped new ZS EV for the Australian and New Zealand markets, because it offers the right combination of range, battery stability and life, recharging time and value for our customers.”
Good luck with that MG Australia!(n)

I’d have thought the LR would be perfect for Australia. We don’t need it in Auckland so not such an issue.

I think 80% of potential EV buyers in Australia would agree with you!
I perceive that there is possibly market research being conducted by MG only within the inner city and suburbs.
There has been a huge exodus to regional and rural Australia in the last two years as our demographers and real estate agents will gleefully tell you. Consequently drivers cover considerable distances in such locations that really demand a LR model. It’s a pity MG hasn’t picked up on that (I’d be looking around for a smarter market research company). And with petrol prices rapidly rising due to world events (unforseen), this maybe a decision they will come to regret over the coming months. Brand loyalty needs to be earned or perhaps my views are a little outdated in that respect.

I didnt think that Australia has the infrastructure to support a long range EV, so we got the PHEV instead. Perhaps in about 5-10 years we will.
Nevertheless the ZS EV is a nice (but expensive) second car for the city runs.

Perhaps you’re right about the current lack of infrastructure but I feel the time taken to stop and recharge more often puts prospective buyers off. I have friends in Sydney who routinely drive kids to weekend sports all over the metro area which can mean over 250kms in a Saturday 😳. The added hassle of necessary recharge time in a day like that cannot be overestimated. A range of about 400kms would make such extended excursions possible and they are keen to purchase an EV in the under 60K price bracket that could achieve that.
