MG HS PHEV
While I was disappointed that the MG HS PHEV did not come with wireless carplay as standard, Ihave found a great compromise- I have a USB wireless carplay dongle called Carlinkit V2.0 which I am using with my VW Golf And a RCD330 head unit. I have tried it with the MG HS and lo and behold, it works very well. Not bad considering it only costs about AU$120!

Thanks for let me know that the Carlinkit works in your car, this now gives me hope that the one I have coming will work as well as it’s from the same stable.

I have been using Carlinkit 2.0 since June this year.. works great. Picked up a slightly used on off eBay for £60 :)

The Carlinkit 3 mini (for Apple Carplay) is smaller than previous models, it fits under the USB port hatch without modification - so it can be hidden away - and works seamlessly. It's a little pricey at £99. but if you check the CarlinKit store they occasionally promote it at £68 (that's the amount I paid last weekend from Amazon).

I like Apple Car play for navigation and Spotify but when connected via cable (in the left most USB port) I frequently left my phone in the car. Adding the wireless kit put an end to that as I can leave my phone in my shirt pocket! BTW, this supports Siri fully so most functions can be voice controlled - I have the button on the steering wheel customised to invoke listening mode (as if saying 'Hey Siri').

Just for ref. the HS PHEV USB sockets remain live after switching off the car power - but only for about 45 seconds, then they power down. I have also hardwired in a Nextbase dashcam using the official kit from Nextbase (via Argos or Amazon); this is wired into the same USB power circuit, It's reassuring that the car's batteries are not drained by leaving these devices connected 24/7.

Please feel free to reply to this post with any other queries on this topic.

I believe the USB sockets are powered live as soon as you unlock the car doors. Hence most of the time you started the car, the phone is already connected to the Carlinkit.

I also have a Nextbase dashcam using the Nextbase hardwire kit wired to the fuse box. Initially I used a permanent live slot (fuse 31) to make use of the parking mode. Although the Nextbase hardwire kit prevent a total power drain of the 12v battery (so at least it leaves enough juice to start the car), the cam still used a lot of the power when ignition off which always kept the 12v battery level very low and battery low warning pops up. I have now wired it back to ignition live fuse (fuse 7) and the health of the 12v is much better but I lost the use of parking mode.

I bought it and usually works very well, but sometimes the system drops and the connection fails even with a wire. Have you had this problem? Thank you!

Yep the unit can get confused when there is a large data stream, or just random glitches. Unplugging it and reconnect usually solves it, if a reboot of the head unit does not. (Hold the HOME button down for 30 seconds)

I bought a CarLinKit 4 for wireless CarPlay, but have problems connecting the Bluetooth. It keeps showing connecting, my phone is showing the maps and the recommended route to work, just as I would to the car’s Bluetooth connection, but then disconnects, and then it goes back into this loop of connecting- disconnecting. If a CarLinkit 2 works, obviously CarLinkit 4 should work too, right? Has anyone experienced this issue?

I have a carplay 2 air unit and this works well, there is no support for the HSPHEV but is for the HS Hector.
