Trophy vs Trophy Connect

N2STY's post was correct it is a multi-network sim with a data plan for the life of the car.
As for what the connect data plan actually is then the only info is that there's a monthly 1G fair use policy...whatever that may actually mean!

if there is a 1GB limit, it would hardly say that the "Wifi hotspot" feature is worth a lot.

With 3 kids in the back, i can guarantee that the 1GB would be used up in no time flat. :)

Do we know if there is actually an actual simcard or it is something like e-sim (as seen in apple watches for example) ?

If this is a 1 GB card, that is limited to 3 years, i would like to be able to swap it out when i need to renew, if the price is higher than what i can get elsewhere.

Also...Is the non-connect able to do OTA firmware upgrades, i seem to remember there being a difference, atleast on the Danish spec, where only the "expensive" version, had OTA.

This was in the brochure. It appears the trims that have the ismart app have OTA updates.

Every New MG ZS EV also comes with the new state-of-the-art MG iSMART connectivity system, which offers connection via a smartphone app. Many vehicle functions can be controlled via the app, including vehicle status, battery charge level, if the car is locked or unlocked, or the alarm has been triggered. Owners will benefit from new convenience features in the app to remotely lock and unlock the car, set the air conditioning and heating, and activate the windscreen demister when required. Owners will have access to view their charging statistics, stop and start a charge, and schedule charging to optimise lower rate energy.

At the heart of the infotainment system is a 10.1-inch tablet-style touchscreen, with new graphics and improved functionality. The new model also gets a new digital instrument cluster and wireless phone charging*.

The New ZS EV also sees the first over the air (OTA) software updates from MG. Owners will receive any new software updates, including new features and improvements, through iSMART at the touch of a button, rather than visiting their local dealership.

haaa, they say you learn something everyday, I have something like that sitting on the dash of my Porsche and always wondered what it was for…and now I know..
To be fair on the porsche it could be a GPS antenna?

Here, "fair use policy" has always meant that you have 1 GB of data, at "full speed" and when you reach the limit, your internet speed is limited to something a lot lower (I remember once i had a subscription with "fair use" and after i used the data i had paid for they limited the internet speed to 64 Kbit).

Does this actually mean that the firmware upgrade is like this

New firmware is released
Push notification on phone
Download firmware upgrade to phone
Push firmware upgrade from phone app to the infotainment system
Infotainment does the upgrade.

If so, that sounds a lot more involving than for example tesla, where the car checks in with tesla servers at given intervals, and if there is an update, the car just downloads the update, and informs the driver the next time the car is turned on.

The driver can then schedule when the update is to be applied.

Or maybe they just download the update to the phone via the app, and transfer it automatically the next time the car and phone connects ?

Not limited to 3 years - free for life of the car.

Their pre-register form is a bit pants...
You could also buy the AAWireless one

AA Wireless website

I have tried neither so i can not say if one is better than the other.

From what i read, there are 2 potential "problems" with the Motorola dongle.

1. The cable is affixed so if the cable or USB connector goes bad, you need to buy a new unit. (And you must use the USB-A socket in the car, no option to use a USB-C cable in the USB-C port)

2. There is no known way of upgrading the firmware in the Motorola dongle. (AAWireless has an app, and has received updates and bugfixes)

What is most puzzling for me, is the fact that google has not made this dongle a long time ago.

It seems such an obvious product for google to make, they know the Android Auto Wireless standard better than anyone else, and they already make dongles like chromecast, so they have experience making hardware, and they have the best knowledge of the software.

What is even MORE puzzling is that in 2022, car companies still release cars, that support Android Auto, but not Android Auto wireless.

I am still silently hoping that the OTA feature of the MG ZS EV, will one day be used to upgrade the infotainment to support Android Auto Wireless. (I would even be willing to pay, if they made it a paid upgrade.....At a reasonable price)

What is the difference between a trophy and a trophy connect? thanks
With the Connect version, you get live traffic updates, weather reports, access to Amazon music streaming (although you have to pay separately for the service), and voice command for various controls, such as opening and closing the sunroof, windows etc. I hope I haven’t left anything out!

I ordered a Trophy Connect in November last year and still not built. Happily the MG Garage managed to get me a cancelled order this week of a Trophy but not with the Connect. It still cost me £34,000 but the good news is that I still managed to receive the Gov. grant. Seems from what you say that I am not missing much.

They must be pleased - that's LR list price (pre July increase) unless there was a paint choice included?
