I don't think it's me, as SWMBO is of a similar opinion, that wildlife doesn't get out of the way of a leccy car anywhere nearly as early as an ICE car. The number of critters we've nearly run down in our MG5 has been startling, especially after our diesel Passat.

I had 2 pigeons in the first 500 miles..
An absent minded lady who just wandered around her to open a door without looking nigh died when she looked up and saw my bonnet 2ft away. And my favourite so far, the cat I had to get out of the car to escort out the middle of road.

I think the low wind resistance and noise are definitely a contributing factor to the maiming of wildlife.

I love the seeing horses so much more relaxed as they pass my completely silent car. I always come to a complete stop now so there is no EU speaker blasting out fake noise.

I can foresee lots of electric scooter riders get injured. When does the imitation sound cut off? MPH ?

It's not just EVs. Years ago, going through the forest in my rattly diesel Carlton, I had to brake fairly hard for 2 pheasants. I stopped inches from them and they only moved when I beeped the horn!

Our town centre has a couple of roads that are open to cars until 10 then pedestrian area after that.

Unfortunately too many seem to be unaware that cars can be on the road and just wander around as they please. I don't like to use the horn so I have had to follow members of the public ambling down the road completely oblivious to what is behind them.

Children are not the best around traffic and the number of times some wander in front of me at our grandchildren's school car park.

Why don't you not like using the horn? That's what it's there for. You only have to give a short 'toot'. Personally I'd give them a blast, it might aid their concentration in the future 😆

I prefer to blip the throttle.. Doesn't work in the MG though.

Strictly speaking it would be against the Highway Code in that circumstance. A horn should only be used to warn other road users of danger.

There is no danger of me running into them and as I have seen them in good time I would be liable if I did. The use of the horn to express annoyance is not allowed. A horn to warn someone about to step in front when I would have to execute a severe manoeuvre to avoid them is about danger not anger.

The offenders tend to be either young who would then return with abuse or the elderly who could stumble or fall due to surprise.

Perfectly fine to use your horn....

Rule 112 of The Highway Code states:

'The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively.

!!! Nerd mode disengaged!!!

I've found we need to be extra careful when driving in housing estates especially with young kids, as the MG5 I drive is so quiet when driving 20 or under.

The fact is most modern vehicles are astonishly quiet compared to only a few years ago especially at idling speeds

My 22 year Old Transit motorhome is positively deafening in comparison to my neighbours VW T5 people carrier.

I'd agree with that, they're not far short of EVs IMHO!

But pheasants are the most stupid birds I have ever encountered. Even if they turn round and see you, they still run down the centre of the road. I don’t know where they expect a car to go 🤷🏻‍♀️

When you've got a brain the size of a walnut......Strangely I had one take off so closely whilst riding my Zero today, I had to avert my head as it was literally 2 inches from my helmet. A well camouflaged hen pheasant, which had blended in with the country road that I was traversing.

I do fear that the accident toll will go up as and when the country will be 50% EV😩😩

All road users and all those walking need to be aware of ev's and ice vehs as new ones are just as quiet that why the new laws have been up dated when driving need to be aware even those cycling and walking 👍
