ZS EV Alternatives

Here in Costa Rica, a nice ZS EV alternative could be the Maxus Euniq 6: bigger SUV with a 70 kWh pack and 350 km of range (WLTP), the price difference between the Maxus and the facelift ZS EV (edit: SR model) is $1K USD.

And made by the same company as the MG ZS, SAIC. Looks quite nice.

It also really boggles my mind, they did not change it over to CCS atleast in Europe.

Even Tesla ditched their own plug in favor of CCS in Europe.

Was actually looking at a Leaf, and the seller was really kean on selling it to me, but then i said "It's a a nice car, but i dont really want a car that has an outdated chargeport".

The sigh from that "poor" nissan dealer, led me to believe, that these Nissan's were getting progressively harder to sell.

Here, by law, if you install a public charger, it MUST have CCS, but ChaDeMo is not mandatory, so most new chargers only support CCS, making it a LOT harder to charge your Nissan.

If Nissan don't soon realise this, and change to CCS, i would imagine, them being "dead" in Europe in 5-10 years.

Who would want an electric car, that has fewer and fewer options to charge for every day that goes on.

I have seen places, that has had their "First gen" chargers replaced with new ones (Old ones were maybe 40Kw chargers).

All of those places has had ChaDeMo chargers, being removed, and replaced with CCS only.

Imagine having a Nissan, getting it charged on a fastcharger, but 6 months later you go to the same place on your journey, just to find that it has been replaced with CCS only.
Think of the impact on residuals in 3y…
Finding available, working chargers on the move is hard enough. Add in complexity of the above…

More details have been released today about the Renault Megane E-Tech. No pricing yet though which is a little odd. Nice car but not as practical as the ZS.

Mercedes there so strange the made a really good EV B class with tesla battery and motor yet never really advertised it so now you can get a 2017 14k miles 3 years left of the 8 year battery motor warranty for like £16k unfortunately it don't have rapid charge and range is limited but the built quality is really good and proper leather interior

I was looking at a used B Class, it was the look on the outside that put me off.

You don't so much get into one of those, as put it on like a coat with wheels. :)
You are not wrong, the SLK was very nice, and the seats definitely gave you a cuddle while you were driving it haha

MG ZS is head turner people at work have asked so many times how I can afford such car thinking it much be way more expansive than it is
I went down to our local recycling centre last week in the ZS EV loaded up with junk out of the shed, I was almost mobbed by people who were queuing up to unload into the skips looking at it, asking questions about it & sitting in it. I told them about this forum to find out a lot more about these MG electric cars. (y):)

4 owners in a couple of years… I think you’ve done right!

Placed my Niro EV '3' in white with heat pump order this week. Delivery end of July in production now. Limited numbers available all with heat pump. £39k a bit more than I wanted to pay but can justify it over the MG with the better interior and tech and a more modern exterior styling. Went to the presentation last week lots of information and the presentation team answered all my questions. Dealers sales rep was a little flakey on specs but already most info to hand. Charges slower than previous model but has a flatter charge curve so is quicker 10-80%. Also has battery preconditioning for charging en route, I think this is a subscription model for map updates with new chargers, will look at cost as do not use rapids that often. Kept my MG order so will see what arrives first as other half is slightly more in favour of MG but is getting a bit anxious about service after the long wait for delivery.

I agree. For years they were ugly buggers. Dont care how cheap they were, they were brutal. Newer ones are a lot better. They will need to be, there are some absolute peaches on the way from China, including the MG offerings. I would definitely look at one of their EVs given that there's not a lot can go wrong. I firmly believe with an EV, get the looks and proportions right and you are on a winner regardless of where they are made

The first shipment of Ora Cats for the UK are on the way here and Dealers being appointed.
Shouldn't need to be appointing many dealers. They are coming in under the International Motors umbrella, and thats current Isuzu and Subaru dealers. So expect to see them at a local Subaru/ Isuzu dealer soon. They are made by Great Wall, and the above dealers already carried the GW utility vehicles before they run in to supply difficulties
