MG ZS EV Shipping Updates

Just to let you all know I ordered a LR ZS EV SE model in white from Chorley group in November 21, so after watching the podcast I rang them to see when I might get my car and the answer was still the same as before, which is end of July 22. He said he will call me once the car arrives in the dealership and he is very frustrated about this delay too.

What’s frustrating is that it seems MG really does not care about client orders at all!
Presumably they are manufacturing 2x SRs that noone has ordered instead of 1x LR for existing orders of customers waiting from the start, just because they can produce more SRs (as they use less chips for lower range battery, or something along those lines) and sell more of them, probably through LR customer desperation at their shambles communication and manangement! Thereby making even more money as LR “early-bird” customers lose their grants, discounts and low APR rates in order to cancel and buy a more expensive SR.
I find this so unethical, this will definitely be my first and last MG! Not because of the delays but because of the way they conduct business, zero care for the customer and all about profits!
Don't get me wrong, not the dealerships, i dont blame them, i feel bad for them, cause they are as in the dark as the rest of us are!

For Tunbridge wells orders, i had a conversation with them today and they were very upfront and honest that they had no clue when cars are coming, they are getting a lot of petrol ones come in but no EVs since the demos they received and they have about 136 or 160 on order (sorry didn’t retain the exact number) the most popular one being the black LR followed by the silver one. They said noone is really receiving LR cars at the moment and when they come through they expect they will be equally distributed across dealerships in the country, and that presumably those that received SR cars were fulfilling orders as they can only place named customer orders; clearly they weren’t aware of similar situations as with the Chorley group. Also asked about the 9 month wait and i was told that was only for new orders placed this past month but presumably does not stand for previous orders although not sure as they are not being informed by MG and they are in the dark as to when cars are coming through. Felt bad for them, they were as in the dark as everyone, despite constantly trying to get MG to update them. Lovely executive salesperson, i emailed and they rang me soon after, i feel for them, they are in a tough spot. MG need to get their act together.

Hello from New Zealand :)
I've ordered a MY22 ZS EV in Dover White SR Essence model back in March 2022. I've been advised by the dealer that it may arrive in July-mid/end.
  • Only two models sold here Excite (base) and Essence (=Trophy) - same battery 50.3kW
  • No clue on connected vehicle options at this stage - dealers don't know. :(
  • NZ is only getting 500 units in the first batch of deliveries.
  • We have rebates for new EV registrations to the tune of NZ$8600.
  • We also have a promotion to buy the MG ChargeHub charger for NZ$1600+ installation cost.

I feel sorry for Tunbridge Wells dealership but they do not seem to be as competent/in favour with MG head office as others. Chorley/Nathaniels seem to be in a better position.

I share your frustration about the delays and experience but I’m not sure how you deduce that the dealers / MG make more money from grant / APR change? The former was a discount from the government, latter is from the finance company. Neither impacts the dealers. Only benefit to them is the cashflow, but likewise, they would have planned for their cashflow in April and that’s been delayed to Sept too.

The criticism is towards MG and is well founded. There have been a couple of price increases since. Also MG stopped the deposit contribution, that money now comes from your pocket to theirs.

Dealers probably don’t make more money unless you were given the preferred treatment like Chorley.

Like the Hobbyist said my criticism is on MG management of orders and their greed.
All ZSs due to their high demand and the automotive crisis have gone up in price including the SRs that have ended up costing as much as a LR almost, and MG have chosen to make more SRs which are not customer orders and noone is waiting for because they can make more SRs with the parts they have available rather than make one LR that us customers have ordered and have been waiting for since last year, not caring that people will lose their grants, discounts, lower APR rates or deposit contributions, if they cancel their LR and go for a more expensive SR, costing the end customer much more to buy a lesser spec car out of desperation or need to have a car asap, cause only those in desperate need of a car the soonest will cancel obviously, whoever has the luxury to wait will just try to be patient and wait.
MG’s actions, preying on the current automotive cirisis and their customers’ desperation show greed and zero care for their customers, only their pockets. Let me stress that I think that comes from MG and not the dealerships, dealerships sell what they are given or can get their hands on and given the difficulties they are facing, good for them!

I totally agree. Very well said too!

I don’t quite understand the statement that ‘no-one is waiting for a SR MG ZS’. Has the dealer said this?
I can’t believe any car manufacturer would be building cars that no-one wanted.

I am waiting for one, and I know I am not alone. Mine due mid-September apparently, but I am okay to wait.

Miles on the podcast said that Chorley group were being sent 60 cars, I am sure some were customer orders but he basically advertised on there that Chorley group has cars to sell to customers who wish to cancel their LR orders and grab a SR, which he himself did. Obviously those SRs sent to him were not customer named orders. It makes it all that much more unfair that you yourself are waiting on a SR car and dealerships get given preference to sell more cars rather than fulfil existing orders. Another example of greed and incompetence by MG.
I wish I good cancel my order but unfortunately I cant afford to cancel and lose out on my discount and lower APR and then end up at the back of the queue of a different brand car manufacturer 😡 but for sure never MG again!

All right, so as you know I cancelled my LR Trophy Connect (Dec 2021 order) from dealership and wanted to go through the salary sacrifice instead due to job change etc. I placed order through my salary sacrifice scheme and they been told by MG that they are not taking new order for any EVs. Like some of you mentioned here. So I am without any order now.

Oh well. Good luck to you all and shame that MG didn't deliver any significant LR orders untill now. LR was launched before SR and instead they are building more SRs. They clearly don't respect early orders of LR.

So checking out. My banger is still working so back to it. All the best to you all untill I re-evaluate situation after this year (sept ) and wait it out for this saga and MG greed to be over.

How would you feel know that if someone orders one from Chorley today they will have the car months before you do? There’s no certainty that your car will be delivered in Sept either.

At the end of the day we are not the customers of MG, the dealers are. If some superstars dealers can sell all the cars they make then there’s no sweat on MGs part to treat other dealers fairly. If you local dealer is not in MGs grace then that’s it.

May be worth giving your dealer a call so they can chase MG...if there's a chance you can get yours this month, better to take it than risk being pushed past September. It shouldn't be the case MG have extra SR to dish out now when there are existing orders unfulfilled, so the only thing I can think is that this next delivery is so big that existing customers like you might find yours has come early.

That said, any dealer I've spoken to this week says they've not been offered extra SR by MG.

Personally I think it is time to lay off blaming @Miles Roberts CG and the Chorley group. My dealer Richard Hardie contacted me before @Miles Roberts CG announcement saying they had cars coming in informing me that my car would be here 18th May as they were getting multiple deliveries. They're not a large dealership just 3 branches in North East and believe they're just on the ball for their customers same as Chorley.

Who's blaming Miles or actually tagging him in their post?

At the heart of what's been said is regarding how MG decide to distribute their cars across dealerships. And Chorley will be OK - Miles' input is valued, and they're grown enough to chime in if they'd like to. They get to shoot fish in a barrel on this forum

Can you quote in the post(s) where we blamed the dealership? The posts were all about MG themselves.
Various mentions of Chorley including in your posts, just don't understand why people can be jealous about a dealer obtaining cars. Any issues should be directed at their own dealer and my apologies for tagging Miles but he is basically the face and voice of Chorley on here...

Looking at the Portbury forward movements, it looks like the next ship in with potential MGs aboard is the

* Tranquil Ace (26th May)

followed by:

* Victorious Ace (6th June)

Can't see any others? Any vessel boffins feel free to correct / add!
Those are the two ships I’m watching for my (hopefully not mythical) delivery ‘mid-June’. I’m not aware of any other likely ships.
