Hi All,

We are coming up to 1 year (in June) so servicing has come back to me as an issue to resolve.

From memory last May-June there was an MG service plan, which bizarrely cost more than the actual services! In addition to paying in advance meaning you were always in credit, there was an admin charge applied for the privilage. I was not convinced.

MG withdrew the Service Plans in late 2021. My dealer (a Glynn Hopkins) have said they will be offering a service pack, but have been unable to come up with details.

I have read that MG are about to introduce a new Service Plan, does anyone know any more? Also, how much have people paid/been quoted for the first service - we have only done 5/6k miles so would be on the low mileage schedule.

Thanks in advance.

Paul

I’m in the same boat but my service due in July. Was also disappointed with the original plan they offered so also opted out at the time. Would love to hear a reply to Paul’s post from other HS PHEV owners.

I ended up on a plan for 4 years with my local dealer for £23 per month covering what I think is a costly 4th year service

Hi Paul I’ve taken a 2 year service plan on my new car it’s cost £320 which I thought wasn’t to bad as I own a jaguar E Pace that cost an awful lot more than that for one service and I mean a lot more

I bought and collected my car from Toomey MG in Basildon last May and they didn’t mention / try to sell me a service plan.
I looked online and found that Apple MG in the Dartford area we’re doing one at around £28 per month including the year 4 service. I’m booked in for my first service on Monday 23rd May, so will see how things go.

Would be very interested to know how much it costs if you wouldn’t mind sharing

Hi All,
Thanks for the replies to date. I have now been quoted £250 - £265 by two dealers for tha first service. That seems a lot more than the first service prices being quoted last year.

Has anyone had a first service yet?

I'm at Poole in Dorset. I bought the car at Purbeck Motors at Wareham in December 2020. It's quite a small setup but I've been very happy with the sales and service teams so far.

Glyn hopkins Chelmsford and East London are quoting £196 for the first service. I bought the car from Perkins at Rayne and they quoted me almost £230. When I told them they were overpriced for the area (Essex/East London), they price matched the Glyn Hopkins price.

The dealer at Baldock quoted £182 but they are a bit far away and so I've booked with Perkins for next month.

I wasn't impressed with Glyn Hopkins quoting on the phone after the guy first asked me if the phev was electric and then if it was manual or auto!!

It does all seem to be a bit of a muddle. Here is a brief synopsis of my experience:

I went direct to the company that actually provide the service plan to the dealers. They were quite rude and difficult to deal with, including denying ever receiving an e-mail enquiry from me. Basically telling me to go through the dealer, who has constantly told me there is no Service Plan.

Dealer 1)
"Your car is due to be serviced next Month, so cannot be included in plan, So I will quote for service 1 on its own , then a 4 year (service 2-5) as a service plan. "
£250 service 1 and:

Service 2 £370
Service 3 £490
Service 4 £475
Service 5 £250

Year 2-5 total cost £1640

So £250 plus £35 per Month for 5 years.

Me: We are a 7,000 miles per year owner - is there a low mileage plan?
Dealer - No
Me: Here is a screen shot from MG website detailing the "low Mileage" service schedule.
Dealer - I have double checked and your car has to be serviced every year, there is no low mileage schedule.

Dealer 2

"You cannot pay for service 1 on its own, it has to be in the service Plan but you have to pay in advance for it. You can only have a 3 year plan. You can add on more years once it is running "

Service 1/2/3

Pay £199 up front, then £26 per Month for 12 Months - then nothing for next 12 Months (I have checked twice this is correct)

Total for first 3 years £511.62 (against £250+£370+£490 = £1,110 from garage 1) So less than half price.

Amazingly these are both backed by the same Service Plan Company, so clearly the dealers just make the rules up.
I look forward to hearing how you all get on. Clearly, please do not share my user name with any dealer!

Frankly, a bunch of con artists. The prices quoted obviously have no correlation with the labour hours and parts required for services.

It reflects on MG badly and shows that they have a long way to go to be regarded as a quality operation if their authorised dealers are allowed to bring their name into disrepute in this way.

I think you do need to compare like with like which in this case is not possible. Until wage rates in rural Dorset are the same as London or rates and other overheads are the same in Sunderland as they are in Guildford then it is unreasonable to expect servicing costs to be the same over the whole country.

Hi G4rth,

My two quotes are fom dealers in Herts 9 miles apart

Dealer 1 for first 3 services £1,110

Dealer 2 for first 3 services £511

Like for like.

My concern was also the contradictory info re including the first service in the plan or not, and in how many years you can take out on the plan (3 yeaars only vs as many years as you want). Given that the plan is administerd by the same underwritting company this is odd, and the only conclusion must be that each dealer invents their own rules!

G4rth

I take your point to some extent. However, Hybrid Paul is seeing one price 50% of another.

Also, in my own case, Glyn Hopkins in East London (expensive premises) were quoting over 15% less than Perkins at Rayne in the middle of nowhere in rural Essex. All logic tells you that this situation should be the reverse if you are paying for a manufacturer specified service i.e. same parts fitted and same labour time. Pay rates and overheads in London are surely higher than in the middle of Essex.

Why don't MG have 'menu' servicing so customers can see what servicing costs will be?
