Bigger wheels, wider tyres, boy racer 4 life 😂

Thanks @MilesperkWh, after much debating and back and forth I've pulled the trigger on:
4 x Michelin CrossClimate 2 215/55 R17 W (98)

Just under £600 on tyres 🤮 But having had the previous gen CrossClimates on another car, the CrossClimate2 appear to be a decent upgrade and with their improved rolling resistance I'm hoping I won't loose too much range. (it's not that big a deal for me anyway as I only tend to do low mileage trips).

North of Scotland here so I swear by winter/all weather tyres, and I've been seriously unimpressed with the Tyres that came with the car, so would rather have more grip than range 😀
Just for the record, I'm also going for the 215/55 R17. 🥳

@Miles Roberts CG and other experts in here. Appreciate your view on the below wheel options for MG5 Exclusive. Though I would love to go for bigger wheels, I prefer to stick to to 16" wheels as I do several stops in residential areas every day going over and parking close to curbs.

Am I thinking right by sticking to 16" wheels or you think I can go up-to 18" wheels and still be good with my daily routine?
Which do you think will make the car look and perform better?
Would going over 3% variation to standard a risky affair?
I understand there will be a Speedo Error, but would the change in wheels affect anything else mechanically?

Appreciate your expert views. Thank you very much.

Hi
I’ve kept my original 16” tyres but changed the alloys to
7” width
38mm offset
A lower offset will make the wheels stick out further which look better but (as I have found out from experience 😂) throw more spray and dirt down the side of th car even with mud flaps
😃👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Hi all,

Thought I could share a couple of photos of my (wife's) MG ZS EV, which has been lightly modified (initially by @shikoku14 ) with tints all round, and now by myself with the addition of some new wheels and tyres.

The original wheel specifications from MG are 17" X 7", ET41, with 215/50R17 tyres.
The wheel PCD is 5x112mm (same as Audi/VW/Mercedes etc), with a centre bore of 56.1mm

I decided to get a set of slightly larger diameter (18") wheels, with a wider fitment (8.5" wide), and a slightly wider offset (ET35), which means that compared to normal, the wheel edge sits around 1" further towards the arch of the car, and 0.5" closer towards the suspension turret.

I got the wheels off eBay (bit of a bargain, they came with a set of nearly new Michelin CrossClimate tyres, unfortunately they were the wrong tyre size to fit the MG, but cost £299 for the set!).

Tyres removed (and up for sale!), I then got some Nexen N'Fera SU1 tyres (good reviews, and quite competitively priced) in a 235/45R18 size. This is a bit taller than the standard tyre (closer in diameter to the 215/55R17 which MG now fit on the ZS EV in India), giving 11mm additional ride height.

I think that they fill the arches better than the original wheel and tyre combination, and make the car look a bit better in terms of stance.

Let me know what you think!

had mine tinted last week just rear at 82% glad you posted the wheels now know i can do it cheers miles

These 18" wheels would fit on the MG5. Overall, the 205/60R16 as fitted to the MG5 is same diameter as the 215/50R17 on the ZS.

I did test fit these wheels (with the original 235/55R18 SUV tyres they came with) to the MG5, but the high profile tyres made it look a bit silly...

With the delays to the ZS I contemplated a 2nd hand MG5 and spending some money making it look more sporting with some tinted windows and black alloys.. this is the closest I’ve seen!

Wanna ask for some help. Anyone can advise if Konig Ampliforms can fit?

hoping to trasfer them from my previous ICE car.

thanks in advance!

I think they will need spacers to move them away from the suspension turrets, as they will sit around 21mm closer to the shock absorbers.

Try a front one, to check. The rear would be fine.

Hi Miles,

Is there any noticeable change in handling or ride quality after you swap with 18" wheels?

Tints look good Miles what grade are they please. I never like just the rear done as it looks odd but around looks nice.

20% on the rear, 80% on the front (percentage of light transmission)

Just had my MG5 tinted in the same way yesterday.

I still very happy with your old wheels, Miles. My MG5 handles better, there is slightly more road noise (but not bad) and it has not affected the mls/kw noticeably. Thanks for your help getting them sorted.
