Hi All

Does anyone have any advice on what is best to nourish and protect the mock leather seats in the MG5 Exclusive. I was going to treat them all today to some nice quality leather cream as I would have done in my lovely old Audi A4 S-Line but then I stopped and thought ... no these are not leather!

Any thoughts... Of course they don't need cleaning, I'm just keen to keep them soft and subtle and looking new.

Will Leather Cream work? I guess it may be fine, just wondered if anyone else had used anything before I caused an un-necessary problem.

Thanks - Charles

I tend to use a spray cleaner such as autoglym leather cleaner, a gentle leather brush and micro fibre cloth to wipe dry. Works pretty well, never tried a leather feeder with these seats.

I was wondering the same thing earlier - had a quick search about how to clean ‘vegan leather’ and lots of Tesla forums talking about ‘Aerospace 303 protectant’ - which looks like a UV protection. Along with plain old non-detergent soapy water to start with. Looks like their might be an automotive version too.

Ok please don’t think I’ve gone daft
but around 9/10 months ago I spilled some waterless wash and wax on my back seat by accident, so grabbed a micro fibre cloth quick to clean it up and after doing so looking at the seat and it look great so I did the rest came up a treat but must admit car was only 3/4 months old then so not very dirty but still do it now about once a month or when it needs it with no problems cleans treat and smells like new.

The faux leather is not porous like real leather would be so a cream isn't going to work except possibly very short term until your bum wipes it off.
It's not going to dry out because it's not 'wet' to start with and if it cracks over time the only thing to do would be put a cover on it I think.

That’s the consensus from the Tesla forums too - think that’s why a UV protector is all that’s recommended by most. But possibly US members where the sun could be stronger.

A light squirt of Pledge and a bit of elbow grease would probably do it.

(I probably don't mean Pledge but one of those furniture cleaners)

Ah now this looks interesting! Might give it a go

I did also wonder about furniture polish as Smokie said but I wonder if it may make it a bit greasy? Perhaps the best option may be a simple as a damp microfibre cloth, perhaps they don't need 'care' as such, just cleaning gently from time to time??

Almost every guide recommend no more than mild soapy water and clean as soon as is practically possible where staining might be an issue.

The uses of polishes or aerosols is NOT recommended as it will eventually make the fabric brittle as it attacks the plasticiser which makes it different to the vinyl of a record for example.

As a slightly cheaper option, I used “Stardrops leather clean and feed” on my old Merc which had faux-leather. Came up clean, left a nice scent and had no cracking despite being a 10y family wagon when we sold it.

I think this 303 product is perfect for use in the car interior and includes seats. 303 exterior spray is excellent on black exterior plastic trim
Hope this helps

I have an Autoglym interior shampoo in the set I got with the car and have used this recently. It helped the seats look lovely. No idea what to do with the leather cleaner that is also in the pack 😅

I bought some of their Leather Cleaner, along with the Interior Shampoo too - the leather cleaner says "A pH neutral formula that quickly and safely cleans all automotive leather and faux leather surfaces" 👍

I went back and looked at the bottle, I got it wrong, 'leather balm' so not a cleaner per se 😔
