I start google maps, plug my phone into cable (official apple cable) and suddenly the maps are gone from the screen. Sometimes its fast, sometimes it lasts for 20 minutes - seems random. Usually the whole CarPlay button becomes unresponsive. Once the whole infotainment system seems to have crashed. This is super annoying while driving. I don't see any error messages in google maps or on my phone so I have no idea what's going on here.
My iPhone is up to date on iOS 15.5. I don't have an Android phone so haven't tested that.

Is it only me?
Is there any way to restart the infotainment system without stopping and restarting the whole car?

I'm a bit disappointed other EVs seem to get regular updates over the air and the MG doesn't really get any updates.

I quickly scanned the thread title and thought it said "Car keeps crashing".
That would be an unfortunate fault to encounter :ROFLMAO:

I found it was the connection at the phone end. Ended up putting the phone in the cup holder with the cable at the top.

I used a series of Anker nylon wrapped cables that were Apple certified and were okay for a while, then did this.

I’ve tried an Anker Powerline III cable now which has resolved CP issues. Supposedly an updated affair, it’s far less flexible thigh, which is annoying but it works.

I haven't tried this specific cable but in general I like the quality of the Anker brand so I'll give this cable a try. I'm guessing this might be a case of musical cables 🤦‍♂️

Assuming you’ve tried other cables and do t have another iPhone to try it with, you could have a look at the phone connector - quite often, over time, lint/dust builds up which still allows charging but not data. Pick it out with something not metallic like a toothpick. (Very common for people who put their phones in their pocket like me.

Another possibility is that it’s an older iPhone that struggles, or an iPhone running out of space and thus malfunctions,

Fully switching the phone off and on again from time to time can help (as with any computer).

Could also be a damaged data port, in which case a wireless adapter would bypass that.

I hate to say it but we're now on second head unit fitted by MG dealer now- only 6mnths old!
Seems to be very common fault

If I ever get my MG I’ll let you know my experience…

Mine seems to switch source to Bluetooth mode and I have to unplug the phone and replug it back in. Whilst driving? Really annoying

I'd previously said I had no problems but recently I've had the same problem as MgMackay. Not too bothered by it really, just an irritant.

Hi i have a Mg 5 long range 3 months old my phone will not connect to android. Wife's iPhone works perfectly on Apple play I'v tried many different cables with on look not sure if it's the phone which is only round 20 months or software issue. As any body had the the same problem Thanks

Unfortunately the MG5 cannot receive over the air updates but I believe the new facelift MG5 will.
I've had my MG5 LR since last September and occasionally get problems with my Android phone intermittently disconnecting. In my case it seems to be the lead connection in my phone, sometimes I accidentally knock my phone whilst driving and that is when the connection occasionally goes.
It is quite frustrating when China seemingly a leader in electronic stuff and we have a poor system.

I have been using an iPhone 10S for 9 months with no issue. One thing to try is not start Google Maps from your phone but wait until it's plugged in then use the car menu to start the Maps; I've noticed iOS can get confused if it isn't the one that started an app.
