It'll be interesting to see what discounts are available, the list price has increased quite a bit although the spec has improved considerably.

Brochure attached.

Biggest thing for most peeps I think is the addition of 'Vehicle to Load' functionality and the addition of the app!

Surprisingly no details on range included on the website or brochure and there doesn't seem to be any pictures of the 'interior design and technology upgrades' as yet!

No mention of the "Standard Range" or whatever it'll be called. Reputedly it'll have more power which seems a strange move unless it has different battery technology.

V2L is a strange thing - how often are most people actually going to use it? A friend with an EV6 has it and uses it when hoovering the car, but he has a perfectly good socket in the driveway.

Roof rails on the SE now, but no mention of towing.

I think V2L may open the door for charging on cheap electric overnight and selling back to the grid during the day if you have an export meter!

A brief overview of V2L.

I doubt it would come with the adapter which can cost "hundreds of pounds", and I also am not sure it provides for selling back to the grid.

Smart tech will probably close some of the more undesirable loopholes (from an energy company pov) like being able to charge cheap and sell back expensive, and run other appliances on cheap EV rates. I'd be a bit wary of spending too much on getting it for such a purpose in case the door is suddenly slammed in your face.

Anyway, looks like cost to change for me could be of the order of £6k (unless Affinity takes a juicy lump out of that ) so given I only do 7k - 10k miles a year and mostly charge at home I probably won't bother.

Thanks for the info though, I am going to get on the waiting list just in case :)

I have been waiting for this model 😜upgrade for a long time!!! It will be interesting whether the Euro NCAP test will now be conducted and results released? An order start date would be good 👍😃 😎 we will have to wait 🥺

This is known as 'brown electricity' but it's already allowed by some companies offering SEG tariffs. I think it will be encouraged more in the future to iron out spikes in demand by paying people to store electricity when demand is low (usually overnight) and feed it back when demand is high. It benefits energy companies as much as it does households because wholesale electricity prices at peak times are almost certainly significantly higher than your SEG rates!

The output levels look low on the new MG5 though and I would like to know what effect it may have on battery life!

Im pretty sure the ZS SR uses a different battery tech to the LR, which is one of the reasons there is a LR shortage at the moment, unless i have completely misread that!

Yes but surely it means the technology is now there to pull energy from the battery whereas previously there was only tech to feed it in!
yes, however as far as I know vehicles need to specifically support V2G as a separate thing to V2L (which is designed for plugging in an applicance to your car say, for example, a kettle when you are making a cup of tea at the side of the road).
I would have thought most EV manufacturers wont want anything to do with V2G as their battery warranties are all in miles travelled, a vehicle participating in V2G will potentially be undertaking a fairly large number of charging and discharging cycles without putting any miles on the vehicle, so the battery may well degrade past an appropriate point (80% of capacity) alot quicker than one not using V2G.

Just my opinion there, but I have only heard of the 1 V2G compatible car, and that is the Nissan Leaf

I agree V2L will not be used often but could be a lifesaver if needed. If not seen already have a look at this.

V2G has previously been done via DC and was properly accommodated for by the Chademo standard. As part of the mess that is CCS and foist on us by Europe the standard for bi-directional has yet to be implemented. Instead it looks like bi-directional AC is the way forward and a standard exists with manufacturers such as VAG promising to implement it "soon".

Edit to add that bi-directional AC is not the same as V2L. V2L is not synchronised with the grid and requires a local Earth on dedicated circuits to be used safely.

Don't get your hopes too high with the app.

Here in France even the top spec MG5 only has the 'lite' version of the app so I would expect no different for the UK (app specs and differences here: MG iSMART - Recharge yourself) - strange as the ZS has both versions, the lower spec getting the lite version and the top spec the full version (although even that leaves a lot to be desired).

I'd say 31k is 5k too much. I can't see many people buying in cash for this car. Unless there is some good affinity deal I won't be upgrading as to be fair its not much of an upgrade.
True, but unlikely they would have brought out the facelift 5k cheaper than the old model and considering all the increases in costs.
