Where do you have the home wall charger located?

Where would you have your Home Wall Charger (WHC) fitted?

  • Front of house, between front door and window.

  • Inside open porch.

  • Side of house, close to front.

  • Side wall on front of house.

  • Inside garage.

  • Somewhere on the side of house.

  • Somewhere else, not visible.

Trying to figure out where will my new home charger should be located for own drive parking.

It would be good to know the UK trend to see what is sociably liked or disliked. Could this impact on the value of your property?

Mine is located on the inside wall of my integral garage.
It gets an easy life when it comes to being protected from the bad weather.
Something worth considering in its placement.
Will the lead ( tethered I assume ) reach both the front and back of the car ?.
Only this helps should you have EV friends to visit, who’s charging port is in a different place than yours, or you change your EV in the future and the cable is to short !.
If you are limited to its location, then make sure you order a lead that is longer than the standard one MOST units comes supplied with.
I replaced my five year old cable a few months ago now.
It was the standard factory length, but I ordered the next size this time.
Now it reaches the front of my car with easy, but when fully uncoiled it will reach the back wing with no problem at all.
Just a bit of future proofing, that’s all !.

I have just added the option for garage location but originally I meant outside location. Somehow I can't edit my post. This is strange.

I guess if the cable does not reach the other end of the car, guests could reverse their cars too.

Yeah - but you don’t want the cable interacting with any of the body panels / paint work of their cars.
When you reserve in, the charging port could be further away from the wall box.
You need enough cable I order to prevent a trip hazard or from strangling any of your guests 🤣.

Mine's on the front wall for ease of access but will probably move it to the side wall at some point when I clear space on the drive way.
Tethered with a 10 mtr cable works for me.

My Zappi is inside the garage with enough cable under the door to reach the car

Mine is on the side of the house, driveway, halfway down (not on your list).
I can drive in forwards or backwards and the 5m tethered cable reaches. If I change the car and the connection is on a corner of the car, it will still reach.
Thought out planning :)

Mine is on the front of the office which used to be a garage at the end of the drive.

I would prefer to reverse in (always have) but nose in means plenty of cable. Until there is something other than an SUV (or something criminally expensive) I have no reason to consider an alternative car in terms of layout.

Mine is on rear of house, behind a fence and gate that separates the house from the driveway. I’ve got a garage but that needs replaced & contains freezer/roofbox and never a car, so chose not to install changer there. I’ve got a 10 meter Hypervolt and since I reverse into driveway, a 10m cable is the perfect length to safely route the cable.

Between double garage wall , had to have a trench dug as supply was 30 metres away.

A long enough charging cable is a key factor that keeps popping up, have you noticed this trend already @1MGEVUSER ??.
It's all about positioning.
If your charge port from the car is closer or further away from the charger and how many EVs you will have to charge. If you have 2 cars in your driveway, it will be more likely that you'll be needing a longer cable.

No point spending more money on longer cable if it's not necessary.

I don't have the car yet, hence I am learning all about EV ownership (and Solar panels).

New Hypervolt Charge Point.jpg

Fitted in a covered Porch area.
Since this picture was taken, I've added a 90 Degree bracket to the socket stowage so it now protrudes no further from the wall than the HyperVolt itself.

Another consideration when siting the box is the light it emits. Mine when it was first installed could light up the street it was so bright. I shielded some of the leds inside it to make it more acceptable and it's fine now.

At the side of the house, as much a consideration for the installer as for accessibility.

I can charge nose against the gate but have enough cable to reach around to the fron of the house if needed. Also the position allows charging to a rear charging point if a future car has it.

Installed by Octopus.

Not a problem with HyperVolt because you can dim the LEDs or switch them off completely.
