I use a 25m camping extension lead with built-in RCD, rated at 16 amps. No problems with granny charger when in use. Only snag is it has a commando plug but a short adapter to 3 pin plug works fine without getting particularly warm. We already had it but easily available at camping shops.

I have an extension lead designed for camping. It has a blue site plug attached (to use on French campsites). The cable is rated to 16 amps, has a RCD and is 25metres long. I have a blue plug adapter to UK three pin 13 amp socket. I have not used it yet as an extension to the granny charger but...

Agreed about the metal to metal problem. I found out when I fitted metal valve caps.

Check your settings. Mine goes dark when the lights come on. I guess there's a switch in there.
