    MG4 : 1st Service : What to expect?

It's under the bonnet. Remove the decorative trim and you'll see the end cover for the filter held by plastic clips. They're really brittle so might be an idea to heat them with a hair dryer or such or they'll probably snap....as I found out last winter.

Collected today - bitter sweet experience

3 million miles ! Maybe that's how long it takes for the parts to wear in and the vibes vanish . Sorry, couldn't resist 🤡

    New cars stressful ??

We'll be doing just that from next year, look forward to the holes being quickly and expertly repaired from then on :p Feels like we don't get much in return for the council tax as it is though, a reasonable surface to drive on without the fear of my suspension getting torn off doesn't seem...

    New cars stressful ??

I think that we're all in the same situation in the UK, don't think I've seen the roads in a worse state in the decades I've lived up here. The irony is that it's the same fekking potholes year after year after year because the local council won't ( or can't ) spend the money to repair them...

    SOH

Yep, I think these dealer SOH reports are a bunch of bollox personally

    Odd noise

High pitched noise related to road speed ? Likely from the motor/inverter, I notice that it's definitely more whiney when temps are low. Pretty normal I think.

    Rattle under boot floor

A rattle / clunk from the tailgate is common on these cars, might be worth checking that first. Wrap some electrical tape around the metal loop that the hatch latches to, also, adjusting the rubber bump stops on the side of the hatch opening can help. Getting the car up on ramps and dropping...

    Little pockmarks on bonnet

The paint code for the black should be 5 PBC, you'll see it on the drivers door B pillar. My 2022 car, also in black has numerous chips that have exposed the light coloured primer, bonnet, bumper, front of roof, edge of the windscreen. I think I generally keep an unusually generous distance...

Common sense at last from NCAP ?

I was manoeuvring in an extremely tight spot the other day, took several forward and reverse squirts to turn the car around. Remember thinking how convenient it was to use the MG's simple, well placed rotary controller and just concentrate on steering . That and the heater and radio controls on...

    Brake discs

Yup, looks pretty much like mine. RWD EV's really should be fitted with rear drums or 2 pot calipers for more even pressure on each pad. The motor is doing the majority of the braking on the rear unless SOC is really high. The design of these SAIC produced calipers seems particularly prone to...

    Anyone need brake pads yet?

Very true, the rear discs start to look sad very early on, VW made a smart move with the drums on the ID 3. MOT time is when a lot of us will ripped off for new discs and pads no doubt. Stand firm and don't take the BS, especially from main dealers. As long as the disc is above minimum...

    MG4 estate to replace MG5

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/mg-4-spawn-estate-replace-ageing-mg-5 Not the best looking but the extra space would be loved by my doggy. I hope they won't be delivered with AUTOCAR printed on the sill, almost as bad as BYD's BUILD YOUR DREAMS on the tailgate ;) Seriously...

    Brake discs

Yip, tis all about the revenue they need to generate to keep the workshops viable, getting more difficult with the increase in EVs. I stripped the rear brakes on mine over the weekend as the rear discs continue to show a really uneven contact with the outer pad. Around 40% of the outer surface...

    MG4 X Power Vibe/Hum 65to75mph

Considering it's China, that may well be their fate o_O

    Adjust steering wheel

And like every car I've owned in living memory, the steering wheel simply doesn't come down far enough for my liking. I think I might be slightly unusual in preferring the wheel low and upright, so I can comfortably rest my elbows on the armrests. I seem to see lots of people with the wheel set...

Well this sucks (XPower crash tested) 🙄

I guess that would be ok if the inner structure and subframe hasn't moved. Bumper, light and wing obviously but possibly the bonnet and door salvageable by a skilful metal tickler ? If there's no airbag pop and the damage is confined to the external cosmetic panels I don't think I would be...

    MG iSmart 2.0 [merged]

It's been utterly useless since the last update IMO, not that it was perfect before. Wouldn't work for me at all today though, as others are finding.

Not impressed how rusty this is about to become.

I bought mine mid Dec 22 and also have 15k miles on it now. Really only some surface rusting on the subframes and parts of the suspension that have a very thin coat of black paint from the factory, thick steel so no biggie . When you say that all over the underside is rusty on yours, where do...

    MG4 Reduction Gearbox Oil Leak

Thanks for continuing your updates spence, very interesting. Pleased that the revised factory breather is allowing 800ml to remain in the box, hopefully it's close enough to the apparent 900ml the unit was designed to hold that it won't make any difference. Regarding the dark colour you're...

    MG4 Undertray dip/bulge

Would probably work but sounds kinda spendy. I just flattened the problematic central bulge with a bit of thin alloy plate I had lying around, had the effect of bridging the rear undertray to the battery undertray, just used the same screws and fixing points to sandwich it all together. I've...
