    Zappi installation with CU

I don’t think there is anything that says you have to have a separate CU BUT the existing CU may not be up to the job I.e a requirement for the surge protection, specific types of breakers etc. the price seems acceptable as with a unit that isn’t as dear as zappi I paid £1k all in. A new CU...

    EV tariffs

If I had the opportunity to switch I would give REAL consideration to the EON one (the 7 hours would be great) but there have been a fair few reports of issues with EON and billing / meter rate switching. After having sorted BG I can’t cope with it again - nearly 3 months, approx 8 hours on the...

    EV tariffs

Well I’ve just applied for the electric driver v7 on BG despite old one v4 running to Oct. It’s down just over 2p (28 to 26p) day rate vs old and from 9.4 to 7.9 on 12-5. Standing charge is up nearly 6p but with the high use of this house (20kwh/day without charging) it still makes sense.

    EV tariffs

I’m tagging on here but one that isn’t mentioned (probably because it’s only just come back to market) Eon next drive. It’s cheaper than BG and gives midnight until 7am. What I can’t quite work out is if you need a compatible charger - nothing I can see says you do but would be interesting to...

    Upgrade of house main fuse

My charger was installed and the fuse seal was magically gone! Smart meter installer, resealed it and also put seals on the Henley blocks. Still waiting since Oct 23 for an unlooping but I have my charge sooooo.

Octopus won’t replace my smets1 meter

I had the same meter. Landis gyr are buggers and have loads and loads of models with the same e470 model number. This caused me much grief. The trilliant comms hub is a give away - this is a smets1 meter. These have a direct connection to centricas WAN and do not use the DCC. Mine was never...

    Type 2 cables redundant?

Type 2 is for untethered chargers. Due to location of my charge point it made sense to have untethered so used pretty exclusively. They are generally used for “destination chargers” so the slower AC chargers at supermarkets, work places etc (my last job had free chargers but again needed the...

    BG or Octopus EV tariff

Non-compatible charger so GO or BG were the choice. BG fixes the price for a year unlike GO and you get an extra hour per day vs the octopus. Now that is not to say all is rosey, it was a nightmare to get up and going despite them being existing supplier and having one of their smart meters...

    Car won't "detect" charger

Is the car taking AC charge from other sources ? Just thinking to rule out it being a car issue before going down the charger route. Another thing I have experienced myself - Powerline networking kit really upset my car. Just in case you have any of that in your home.

HUMAX enter the EV charger market

There is an ancient HUMAX free view recorder at my mother’s that has been used for years. Specifically bought as they kept a serial port on the back as the updates on freeview were somewhat restrained in how long they broadcast. Good piece of kit. As with all chargers - not fussed about the...

    Surrender☹️

I don’t wish to jinx it but I have one of the 1st batch of SEs (black glass) and software has been pretty faultless. Basically Apple car play is used for everything it doesn’t always connect 1st go via cable that’s about it. The app is a tad temperamental as to if it will connect all of the time...

    Battery Pack (via V2L)

Whilst I commend money saving - are the extra charge / discharge cycles worth the saving. Not picking but a genuine question. Obviously in a necessary situation - a few days of now power, saving your freezers kind of scenario, being prepared is a no brainer. I myself bought the eBay cheapo...

    Little pockmarks on bonnet

In my early driving days I took my metro (well Rover 100) to Hull when it decided to snow, I overtook a few gritters on the motorway. It made this exact type of damage all over the front of nightfire red. Since then I’ve dreaded gritters ! The metro never did more than about 60 and the gritter...

Main Beam on - safety issue?

I leave auto lights on but auto main beam off in the infotainment screen, as I made that mistake before - thankfully I’d just plugged into charge locked the car and was like whaaaaaa lights on ?

MG4 charging - lack of feedback

Exactly the same for me on timed home charger or work ones that dump charge in immediately (I think the timed one says connecting for a good while).

MG4 charging - lack of feedback

Always had the app tbh but there are a few ways. Car on in park after a drive, plugging in and hearing the lock engage on the charge port, the lights on the charge port and if the display is awake (haven’t locked the car at this point) it says plugged in slow charging. Prior to that the charge...

Main Beam on - safety issue?

I find auto main beam hopeless. It comes on well but doesn’t dip so end up fighting it to not blind people. Each to their own - just glad it can be killed off easily enough.

    British gas/Hive/change charger?

I don’t have a hive or speciality charger that can work with octopus etc. I do use BG though - unless you are one of the lucky ones you WILL have trouble with them, getting the right tariff/billing sorted and their smart meters. It took 3 months to go from smart PAYG to their EV tariff, 2 smart...

    Anyone need brake pads yet?

Such a new car I doubt the aftermarket has an audience yet. They will come in time - I just hope I’m not one of the early ones rather selfishly. Now for aliexpress etc beware - technically as the importer of brake pads they should have the correct E markings on to comply. Now in the past I’ve...

    TPMS on new alloy wheels

Not wanting to pick but that isn’t quite true. Wouldn’t want anyone getting confused. There are direct fit sensors which are brand/vehicle specific and won’t match up to the car despite being 433MHz - certain parameters like the transmission interval, alert parameters, even serial numbers might...
