    Vehicle to load

I got a cheap adapter off ebay for less than £30. It worked with our MG4 and could power the router and got the kettle to boil while we were having electrical work done. However, I'm not sure I would want to use it in the rain. If you want a weatherproof then you might have to pay more - the...

How to put car in neutral for towing if battery is dead

There is a neutral option on the gear selector. In the quick ownership guide it says: "When pushing or towing the vehicle for temporary situation, the driver's side seat belt should be inserted into the lock and maintained in the inserted state, and then place the electric drive transmission...

MG4 Spotted! : Was it you?

Grey XPower spotted on the Didcot bypass (A4130) on Sunday morning, turning out of Mersey Way. Think it was an XPower because I thought I saw some colourful pads.

    Circular reasoning

If Intelligent Octopus go continues to be as generous as it is then I expect you will outperform this in the first few years at least. Who knows what will happen to electricity import and export prices after that, but your own generation and a battery will give you flexibility whatever the...

New owner.. A bunch of questions

We have an SR so a different model and can't say much about the range. A few people seem to have had bad luck with software issues - there may be some glitchy cars out there. Issues we had were: Front door button not working (hopefully will be replaced under warranty) Car bound to previous...

    MG3 Hybrid+ On Order

Aren't BEVs perfect on small islands like Malta, Shetland, IoW? Never too far from the home charger!

    MG4 51 excite.

Yes, they seem to have given different names in different markets. Perhaps a few differences here and there but generally there are I think 3 battery sizes, 3 motor strengths, and a few extras like heated bits that you get on the more expensive models. 51kWh LFP battery will be the...

EV opposition in the media is ramping up

I saw a recent Audi e-tron thing which didn't have green on the number plates a few days ago. I wonder if some people are asking to avoid the green stripe so they don't get hassle from their petrolhead mates?

    Givenergy chargers any good?

Took us a while (maybe a couple of months) to get the export set up with Octopus, so we were giving away free energy to our neighbours for a while! Bigger incentive to use your own energy initially! I just counted the export as carbon offsets anyway so it was saving money that way.

    Givenergy chargers any good?

It sounds like you can't go wrong with either zappi or the Giv charger. Zappi has more history and is already integrated with Octopus. It works with givenergy equipment, as long as it is set up properly. So maybe base it on which you like the look of, and/or which is cheaper to install...

    EV tariffs

I think Gary does solar had a video about a guy who built an automation service for people's batteries. I couldn't find it after a quick search and it is far too late for me to keep looking for it, but I'm sure I didn't imagine it.

    Givenergy chargers any good?

Hello! I got my first EV and first charger a few months ago. Waited for Givenergy to bring one out so it would match the solar/battery and I could use one app to rule them all! Really impressed with the features of the givenergy charger - you can adjust the charging rate manually as well...

    EV tariffs

I'm on intelligent Octopus flux and can recommend. The car has nothing to do with it - the intelligent bit applies to the Givenergy battery - they control it and in exchange you get amazing returns on your export to the grid. Essentially you are using the grid as your battery so just charge...

    Goodbye MG4 Trophy!

Sorry to hear this. Thanks for the heads up about this particular car though. I think any marque can have a dodgy car, but it is very disappointing and concerning that MG didn't step up and deal with this better. I get the odd glitch on mine but as an ex-demo I was reasonably confident...

    Sand dunes

Yes I've noticed the sand collection issue since having an MG4. Always in one corner of the bonnet depression.

    Circular reasoning

Result! Are they going to de-tune the 5kw until they get the G99 permission? Glad you won't have to wait months like we did. Our solar was great today - made nearly £4 export even after filling the car to 100% (from 80% so 10kwh)!

    Charging EV & Battery

A lot of companies seem to be expanding their offers from whichever product they started with to offer all three of: Smart EV Charger - home battery - solar/battery inverter Myenergy started with the Zappi and have now expanded to the Libbi. Givenergy and Solar Edge started with...

    GivEnergy or Fox ESS

Sounds like you've got a plan! So maybe the portability of the units to a new place is a consideration? It sounds like they are similar spec anyway. AC coupled and perhaps you could use AC micro-inverters on your future roof and you won't need ever a DC inverter.

    GivEnergy or Fox ESS

Ahh I see - quite an unusual case where you can't take advantage of the cheap overnight 5 days a week and need the energy during the week. Shame you can't have solar as it sounds like you're a perfect use-case: your car could absorb loads if it is parked during the day! (Well, for March -...

    GivEnergy or Fox ESS

I see. So you are looking to fill a large battery in a small window of off-peak time, and charge the car while running the house during the peak, hence the need for a high charge/discharge rate? Could you try to qualify for Intelligent Octopus Go and then you'd have a longer charging window? I...
