MG5 Pre facelift (LR) tyre choices

My original SR has Bridgestones, now on 28.5k miles, looks like it might need 4 new ones for its first MOT in a couple of months. Sounds like you were very unlucky with the duff ones fitted on front - I wonder why they changed them before selling to you. Still at least now you wont be forking...

Dead 12v battery - any help and advice please?

Ok, back on road. Found that the old battery after recharge and back in car was dropping volts overnight (car off and locked) - not a lot, about 12.4 down to 12.2v on the dashboard but I felt enough to be a concern if leaving the car for a week or more. Difficult to measure the current drawn by...

MG5 SR Exclusive - Parking System Fault ⚠️

Whoops, didn't really mean to like that but just to comment that many of the messages are somewhat obscure - probably machine translated from Chinese and not corrected by a native english speaker. Some are amusing ("please charging battery low" always makes me smile) some confusing and some just...

Dead 12v battery - any help and advice please?

Hurmph, After 1.5hrs charge battery reading 11.7 volts off charge. Disconnected charger reconnected car. Spark when connecting the +ve lead and a clunk from lowdown in engine compartment. After two secs the horn started beeping (not popular I imagine at 10pm on a Sunday) and the car would still...

Dead 12v battery - any help and advice please?

MG5 SR late 2020. Just got back from 5 days away having left car standing on drive as usual.Car was turned off and locked. Keys (both) wouldn't unlock the car. Appeared completely dead. Unlocked manually and car would not turn on. Opened bonnet and removed cover. Disconnected 12volt battery -...

    Mode and KERS setting thoughts

Having driven my original SR 25k miles over 2 years I often find myself musing as I drive on how the drive mode and KERS settings are actually implemented (I used to be a software engineer / system and HCI designer) If I was building it with the spec to do what it does I think I would keep it...

Don’t you just love the guessometer?

I don't have any problem with the (implied) sarcasm in the OP title "don't you just love the guess-o-meter". I've had my SR for over 2 years now and very quickly learnt to ignore the GOM - the new information above is that it uses the previous 15 miles as a baseline - I've never seen that...

Using Solar to charge your MG5

NB when we got the car you could find public rapid chargers at 35p/kWh or less - which was much cheaper per mile than petrol. Now they all seem to be over 65p/kWh and petrol is pretty much the same price as it was so if you have to use public chargers there is little or no economic benefit.

Using Solar to charge your MG5

For most of the year I find the 8kwH house battery is more than enough for the house demand (no electric heating/water) so in winter I charge the battery to 80%on Octopus Go cheap rate each night and then dump any leftover in the evening into the car. In winter if car gets too low for next days...

Using Solar to charge your MG5

What is that screen shot from? I don't have anything like that on my Zappi app - I find the Zappi controls pretty inadequate and have to set an alarm on my phone to remind me to manually turn the zappi off before the house battery (8kwh) gets too low or it starts taking power from the grid (if...

Kers 3 at 100% on MG5 (also missing DAB Radio)

The issue in the OP was that some models prevent setting K3 until batt<96%, others allow the setting but don't do anything until batt<96%. For me (with 2020 5SR) the new config would be an improvement. I've trained myself to reflex set E & K3 when starting (yes I also wish the was a setting to...

    Radio issue

Try disconnecting the 12volt battery (under the bonnet - the normal auto battery, disconnect the +ve terminal) count slowly to 20, and reconnect it. This resets quite a lot of things including the HV battery control when a duff charger doesn't finish correctly and kills the car (has happened to...

    Radio module disconnected ??

And the answer is... ... disconnect the 12 volt battery, count slowly to 20, and reconnect it. All came good. ie turn it off and turn it on again at a deeper lebel. 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️😂

    Regen Advice

The only time not to use kers3 is when the roads are icy or very slippery. If loss of traction is detected with only kers active and no physical braking it knocks off kers causing an acceleration - a bit alarming!! At all other times there is no point in not having full regen available (kers3)...

    Tyres (original fit)

In two years and 21k miles I don't think I've ever spun the tyres (still the originals all round). I do always drive in Eco mode though. I guess if you habitually use Normal, or even more so Sport, it might be a problem. The mode seems to just change the sensitivity of the pedal so if you've got...

    Radio module disconnected ??

About a month ago the screen started showing "Radio Module Disconnected" and playing loud white noise when turned on. I can still select bluetooth music which works ok. I never use the radio but its a bit annoying. Does anyone know how to fix this? System reset makes no difference and the...

    MG5 Tow bar again

Thanks Les. Are those pictures of your original SR or a new one?. I was looking underneath particularly behind the plastic bumper on the new one and it seemed different to what I remembered under mine, but I didn't have them side by side, I didn't have a camera with me, and it was raining so I...

    MG5 Tow bar again

When I took mine for a service just before Consumermas there was a new 5LR parked on the forecourt (the latest one with no grille) and I had a look under the back - they seem to have completely change the arrangement of metal struts under the boot so I doubt if a towbar made for the new towing...

WHATS UNDER THE COVER ON AN MG5?

Its coiled around the gubbins that fills the space where the wheel could be (a lump of grey polystyrene with cutouts. Also I don't think it is above the height of the gubbins so I imagine it would be ok with the lowered boot floor. Still never used it,but I know its there if ever the need...
