MG4 - Loss of power in cold weather with over 30% battery

Don't let one experience colour your view of EVs in general - that is not a good strategy. Everything is a compromise, ICE cars included. If you can charge at home, there's nothing remotely as cheap to run as an EV. That's a fact. Now, if you can't then fair enough. Don't listen to "they"...

EV opposition in the media is ramping up

Here an antidote to the bad news, a proper bit of EV reporting, and it has my favourite quote in the discussion: "Better not show Mcmaster fans this video. They'll realise the world isn't flat 😂"

Rear lights condensating on MG4 SE

This is common across many models and makes. Individual designs fare better or worse. The MG4's large rear lights seem to be particularly susceptible. Manufacturers need to come up with a better solution for combating this issue. Until then, it is unlikely anything will be done about this...

Zappi failing to charge car to 80% (Edit update: Not a problem with Zappi. Issue with AC charging/New CCU ordered)

No, it still fails but it is better, far less often, and I will settle for it now.

    I smart app

Yes, the "bind" is really you creating an account for your car, it doesn't bind it to a specific phone. Use the app on another phone with the same login credentials and it will connect, logging out the other phone. There's no way to use two phones at the same time, unfortunately, so you both...

Zappi failing to charge car to 80% (Edit update: Not a problem with Zappi. Issue with AC charging/New CCU ordered)

After installing the CCU they updated a ton of modules across the car, not just charging and upgraded me to R46 infotainment software. However, that was because I also complained about the eSOS phone failing, bad ACC behaviour and phantom emergency braking. So, you wouldn't necessarily get all...

    Charging

Correction: my car wasn't broken, it was a misconfiguration issue - somehow a car schedule got set that didn't allow charging except during specific restricted hours. Once that was cleared, everything works again.

Zappi failing to charge car to 80% (Edit update: Not a problem with Zappi. Issue with AC charging/New CCU ordered)

Ok, Foxy is fixed and working again! Actually, she was already fixed last time, the problem I had turned out to be a configuration issue. I've never used a schedule on the car and always set a schedule on my car charger. For some reason - possibly due to the defaults? - when the car had its...

It is just you. Car goes in as is, rubbish and all.

MG4 Charging port lights stopped working

    Yes, software bug, not hardware.

    Charging

For those wanting to know about AC charging problems and CCU replacement, here is the relevant thread: https://www.mgevs.com/threads/zappi-failing-to-charge-car-to-80-edit-update-not-a-problem-with-zappi-issue-with-ac-charging-new-ccu-ordered.14233/ Key points: Affects Phase 1 (2022 MY) LR...

    MG4 Software Update Thread

I have R46 and the programmable left button works just fine. I don't think that update is the problem, probably an interaction with some other updates on the car.

Tesla Opening Up Supercharger Network - A BAD Idea

Yep, it is the exact same in the UK. 👍 That's stretching things too far. Tesla did not have the first EVs nor the first chargers. Why do they get to define where charge ports go? Yes, but not everyone is using it and there's a substantial pool of cars that don't support it, so you'd still...

Tesla Opening Up Supercharger Network - A BAD Idea

Tesla have designed a charging solution that caused this issue - all the others provide long cables. So now the network is opening up, it is encumbent on Tesla to provide some kind of fix. I don't see how they can easily differentiate between non-Teslas when they are plugged in, they won't...

Zappi failing to charge car to 80% (Edit update: Not a problem with Zappi. Issue with AC charging/New CCU ordered)

The AC charging stopped working with no updates to the car after about 9 months of ownership. I've had a ton of updates since to try to fix the problem along with a new CCU fitted.

Zappi failing to charge car to 80% (Edit update: Not a problem with Zappi. Issue with AC charging/New CCU ordered)

Ok, am booked in for Wed and Thu next week. They want the car for two days to run tests and analyse the results with MG's technical centre. They believe it is a problem with the software updates, so they are going to step through and retest to see if this is a one off or something that needs...

Tesla Opening Up Supercharger Network - A BAD Idea

Unmanned charging stations cannot have any kind of "ban" for practical reasons. You'd have to do it in software by recognising the car and knowing its type, but where do you get that data from? I suppose in theory you could have ANPR cameras to control entry but that would expensive...

Zappi failing to charge car to 80% (Edit update: Not a problem with Zappi. Issue with AC charging/New CCU ordered)

No, I have an email from the dealer saying they will be in touch today to book the car in again. There's been a few days delay waiting for MG to respond.
