Testing the Mg5 standard range to the limit

I view it as success when I am 3 miles from home and the GOM goes to 3 dashes! I have an early ZS, with the 42 KW battery and it is perfectly feasible to do more than 300 miles in a day. In fact with all the new charging facilities that are going in I would have no issues attempting a 450 mile...

    Stunned !

We started buying estate cars when we had young children. With a couple of years without we went to a Passat estate which my wife drove primarily. She then complained it was too long, and certainly some of the London Boroughs had you because the parking spaces weren't long enough and you could...

    Stunned !

The 2nd hand market has been trounced by the cost of inflation and a big reduction in discretionary spending. From a surplus of buyers queuing for cars short of chips we have gone to too many cars. Of course we might just be at that awkward spot where promised new battery types are about to be...

    Stunned !

All EVs are affected by the market drop in price. The MG5 I looked at were nearly all up in the 50-70k mileage so obviously were business cars/taxis. I suspect that the ordinary guy in the street just compare the price of electricity with diesel at the moment without digging into the type of...

    Battery heating on the MG5

Thanks. I am intrigued, the SR version has battery chemistry that might last twice as long as the LR so provided it can charge quickly with preheating that might be a better choice for me who spends 3-4 months year abroad with my family. Longevity rather than other features being more important.

    Battery heating on the MG5

So do the short range batteries charge more quickly at lower temperatures? My Mk 1 ZS struggles to charge above 30 kWh on rapid chargers unless it is the height of summer. Not usually a problem as I rapid charge only 10 times a year or so and rarely for more than 10-15 kWh. But I am thinking a...

    MG5 ON TV

I have said it elsewhere, but the motoring press were highly critical in their first reviews of the ZS but given the nos. sold and the fan club now behind MG they have seen the light. The first Japanese cars were criticised back in the 70s but they stole a march on many car manufacturers and...

Have MG been naughty releasing MG5 LR just one year after they introduced MG5

Were the low price first versions an effort to get noticed in the market place? MG ICE cars weren’t considered special by the auto press and first reviews of the MG ZS EV were sniffy but the sales figures have showed that MG have a good proposition. That the first cars were an EV squeezed into a...

    Going forward in reverse

I had the same thing, I think I was too quick selecting reverse after switching on. Beat the boot up to it.
