That's how it's supposed to be, so the driver isn't distracted while driving. It's a basic safety measure. Forgive me if I'm missing something here.

Why do you need that?

The pre-2013 models, yes. Later models have 6.6 kW OBCs. That would have been J1772 (type 1). If it was CHAdeMO, then those early Leafs charge at up to around 47 kW, from memory. But that's maybe only at 50 kW chargers.

As far as I know, radar is not particularly affected by dirt, dust, or small amounts of moisture. So I don't believe it's a priority.
