The latest iSmart app frustratingly no longer allows special characters, when we are usually told we need some special characters!

Isn't that State of Health, not State of Charge? That's estimated capacity divided by nominal capacity times 100%. Batteries do degrade of the order of 1% health per year. MG fib a little by reporting any value over 100% as 100%, so you don't notice the initial high degradation that is normal...
I'm sure there is, or will be. Just a shortage of people wanting to put in the work to make it happen, or having the skills and equipment needed.
I suspect that the Mark 1 attracted many of the early adopters, who tend to be the ones with those skills and equipment.
That seems crazy that they would not allow it.
I'd post a link to my Google Drive, but I don't believe that I can get access to the .apk file from a phone it's installed on, at least without a lot of trouble.
Brilliant!
I've updated the first post with this link:
eZS - Apps on Google Play
If you are using an Android phone to view this post, you can just click on the link and it will take you to the Play Store. On a PC, it will take you to a web page with the details.
I had to uninstall and...
I've had the above dongle for long enough to have formed an opinion now.
It's OK. Does the job, but I notice that with some data intensive apps (like the unofficial Thai app when starting up), it works better if I have my phone pointed fairly closely to the dongle. Maybe it has really low RF...
Is that the unofficial Thai app, the subject of this topic, or the official MG app as used in Thailand?
Only the unofficial app has version numbers, as far as I know.
What version number does it show?
[ Edit: I see that it was 2.5.0, now 2.8.0. See first post in this thread for a link. ]
There hasn't been an update in nearly a year, so I don't expect an update for the newer models any time soon.
If someone figures out the PIDs, I'm happy to attempt to patch the app to make it a facelift-only version. For anyone technically minded and a facelift owner, I'm pretty sure the...
No, this app is ZS specific.
But you can use other apps, I think that the EV Watchdog does MG5 now. Oops, not yet, per this post. I'm sure that there are others; check other threads in the MG EV Unofficial App Support & OVMS Forum.
I worry about how long a Pi based machine will take to boot up. It's not ideal if you can't jump in the car and drive right away. Maybe there are ways to speed up the bootstrap process these days.
Yes. Or at least these are the same as the ones I received about 6 months ago. I think that means you don't have the better infotainment system firmware. Maybe there isn't an Australianised version of that as yet.
It took me a while to compare them, as OVMS lists the modules in a different...
This doesn't seem to be a new version, just 1.2.1 unpatched. For those who want my patched firmware (it just adds the OBC version number, and gives two names for one other firmware), it's version 1.2.1p1 at the end of this post on page 25.
We don't have access to the firmware in any of the ECUs, including the TBOX (Telematics). It's also doubtful that MG would sell a TBOX to us for reasonable money. So I think for existing models, OVMS is the best and only way to go. But the people developing that have hit some snags, and progress...
It's a common one for recent updates.
Good to see someone making use of the patched version of the app. May as well get all the version numbers that we know of, it seems to me.
Yes, all EV batteries have degradation. Usually, the degradation is worst in the first year or two, then levels off. To prevent panic, MG report 100% for the first year or so (unless there's an actual fault with the battery). I think that they call the manufactured capacity about 103%, and...
This app is not at commercial robustness level. I find it crashes randomly, but not bad enough to be really annoying. I'm most interested in the firmware part of it, since it's the only way to get versions (apart from OVMS, which is expensive and an effort to install). For whatever reason, on my...
