    Say Hello

Welcome. How popular are MGs in Pakistan? What models do you get there?

    MG5 rattle sound (petrol engine)

Your problem seems to be related to your petrol (gas) engine. The MG5 EV discussed here does not have such an engine, so no one is likely to have had a similar experience. It's really confusing that SAIC (the manufacturer if MGs now) allows organisations in various countries to use the same...

    Testing Tesla Superchargers, Bristol

As mentioned many times before, unless you register with a Tesla, you will see only the open-to-all chargers.

Can there ever be enough DC chargers?

I think it's part of their quick installation system now. They manufacture a module of half a dozen or so dispensers on a concrete (?) slab, and a few of these fit on a big truck. Presumably they have a set distance between dispensers, and they can paint up the parking area to suit. They can...

EV opposition in the media is ramping up

Looks like that iPace didn't get its recall done in time.

Can there ever be enough DC chargers?

Err, it's 0.00658 of their profit, or 0.658%. Still amazing. And I believe they'll still buy them. Elon will find a way to keep the charging business running, just with a lot of the old staff fired.

    The Tesla full self-driving thread

They are talking about integrating Grok (Tesla's equivalent of ChatGPT); that might allow it to explain itself. But I have definite reservations. I do think that the current crop of machine learning is totally amazing; it performs way better than I thought it would. But it has a definite...

Connecting a V2L car to a house as a battery.

Also, it's a grid tie inverter. It won't output power until it has seen the grid stable for one minute. If it is ever unplugged, it should detect the lack of load immediately and stop the power.

Connecting a V2L car to a house as a battery.

What's the reason for the 90V limit from the power supply? That limits you to under 540W. If it's a limit of the inverter's PV input, you could probably find a better match of power supply or inverter to get more peak power throughput.
  10. Coulomb

Connecting a V2L car to a house as a battery.

It seems like there's a lot of losses involved: Charging losses before energy gets into the car's battery Battery inefficiency (discharges at a lower voltage than it charges) Losses in the V2L DC-AC converter Losses in the DC-AC power supply Losses in the grid tie inverter Some small additional...

Tesla Opening Up Supercharger Network - A BAD Idea

Extension cables at the up to 250 kW level are extremely problematic. So much so that type 2 designs the cables such that it can't be done, at least with commonly available parts. V4 cables are already longer. Extending V3 cables might be awkward; they seem to be designed to tuck neatly into...

Police ram runaway electric iPace after brakes fail on M62 (debunked)

... That on its own sounds highly implausible to me. Cars are always designed with stronger brakes than motors. Deceleration due to braking is always stronger than acceleration.

Police ram runaway electric iPace after brakes fail on M62 (debunked)

Virtually all cars, all MGs included, have the traditional mechanical brakes and duplicated hydraulic system, operated by the brake pedal as well as by the emergency braking computer (if enabled). At worst, if the vacuum pump fails (the vacuum hose in an ICE could fail too, or the engine could...

    Plug & Charge

Yeah, sometimes you just have to use Google, e.g. https://www.google.com/search?q=%22plug+and+charge%22+site%3Amgevs.com The first hit seems useful, and even references two other posts: https://www.mgevs.com/threads/electroverse-plug-and-charge.11395/

    NEW MG9 & MGS9

I wonder if SAIC venturing into more luxury, more expensive models with higher expectations of quality will force them to acquire far better software engineering skills, and that this might trickle down to a degree to the less expensive models that most of us can afford. It could happen. Though...

Connecting a V2L car to a house as a battery.

Drops below 50 VDC? Oh I see, if over 50 V, there is no need to use power from the car, as it's presumably day time. But then you have the problem of potentially turning the panels into giant infra-red LEDs. You can solve that by disconnecting the panels, but that requires a moderately expensive...

    Speeding. 🙄☹

Or not at all. But it takes a bit of mettle to resist it sometimes.

Yes you can drive through big puddles.

I'm afraid that I can imagine a fair bit of damage. It's soaking, flooding water for tens of seconds as opposed to small splashes that run away quickly. But maybe I'm excessively pessimistic, or overly dismissive of the effects of rain. Australia being the driest continent and all that.

Got a Nissan leaf this is for you

That's really confusing. I think you can just buy one, according to one of the photos. Maybe there is some weird glitch that makes it look like the minimum order quantity is two.
