    Upgrade of house main fuse

Which is one of the reasons I drilled the hole before the installer arrived. Ostensibly for me to install a 16A socket for the caravan, including Henley block and a second CU exclusively for outdoor circuits. The main CU was at the opposite end/side from the incomer, itself adjascent to the...

1st day of free solar charge

Mk1 digit for solar charging for me as being retired I’m at home or out in the car. Looked at batteries and automatic charging but the saving would take about 15 years to cover the costs. Nothing has that long a warranty so would have to factor in the repair/replacement costs.

    Upgrade of house main fuse

My DNO had to come out because there was no rating on the fuse carrier or one visible on the fuse itself. Their engineer couldn’t find a rating either but had decided to replace the whole terminal and set up an earth from the supply so I could come off the earth rod.

    Upgrade of house main fuse

It may depend on your DNO but it should be 80A on an exclusive supply. It's not unusual for a sparks to pull the fuse carrier to carry out work on consumer units/meters safely. In principal it is hardly a huge leap to replace the cartridge but ONLY the DNO can say the upstream service is good...

EV opposition in the media is ramping up

Somebody must have told them.... "This is the shocking moment a car owner claims that his 'rogue' hybrid Jaguar car took on a mind of its own and damaged three high-end cars in a scene out of a demolition derby."

Delay paying £190 car tax on EV until April 2026 (action needed before the end of March 2024)

I did carry on and it allowed me to renew my tax as normal. I have verified that my tax renewal date is now 1st March 2025 I am not sure why it couldn't wait until March 2025 but I would probably forget by then, now the renewal is set for March that will carry on (unless I get a new car )

Are body shops scared of EVs ?

My local bodyshop is happy with them but they had heard of some places refusing EVs if welding is required. It could be they are scared of blowing something rather than the actual voltages involved.

    Is it just me?

Clear everything that doesn't belong in it including removing the child seats. That way when they clean (which they do) it nothing is in the way for the job to be done right. If I had one in that look like a skip I would leave it in that state. I particularly wouldn't leave change in the, unfair...

Delay paying £190 car tax on EV until April 2026 (action needed before the end of March 2024)

I only save about 4 months worth but still worth doing As a matter who do people think is the "the government" often referred to? The vast majority are just civil servants and penpushers who interpret the fine minutia of the regulations drawn up by other civil servants on the basis of...

HUMAX enter the EV charger market

Mine is 16 years old and still works, on the original 500GB HDD. Win some lose some. I suspect "Humax" don't make anything.

EV opposition in the media is ramping up

I do agree but what I have an issue with is the practice of Social Media companies of denying responsibility for what is posted on their sites. If somebody has a particular axe to grind find somewhere to express it other than the mainstream sites but at the same time Meta need to make sure...

EV opposition in the media is ramping up

You can "blow your own trumpet" on social media with absolute drivel and it wil stay there gradually gaining "likes" If someone gets a million likes they represent that as vindicating their post, the trouble is there are just over 5 billion social media users in the world so it is meaningless...

EVs in popular culture ... where are they?

There are other options to ICE of course. How about steam, using eco pellets to fuel it of course. Some time ago gas turbines were tried without success. Perhaps things have advanced enough to have another go as they can run on a wide range of fuels.

EVs in popular culture ... where are they?

I wonder if he has a few solar panels on the roof to help charge it. Let's face it, the gaff is big enough  Yes but who invented it? Doc was obviously struggling to get it working until Marty arrived from the future so Doc could see how to do it. So it wasn't invented by Doc, was...

    Anyone crashed their car?

On a TV traffic cop series I remember one of the accidents quite vividly. Smallish car, possibly a Fiesta rear ended by an HGV. The driver had been out to pick up a pushbike so had folded down the rear seats to fit it in. To do so he had moved his little girls seat into the front as she would...

    Dealer sticker in back window.

The view out of the rear window of the MG5 is somewhat restricted so having a sticker in the top middle did not last long. Low down in the bottom left or right corner and it might have remained so it is the dealer stupidity that meant it was gone.

    Update re. Looped electricity situation

To go back a few posts the fuse carrier doesn't really need a voltage marked on it, it is essentially the same voltage either end. The label is probably indicating that the equipement is rated for 415v 3 phase supply installations max which if anything is as much about insulation safety as...
