    Insurance confusion

I'm with Churchill and they cover both cars for the handover/swap day.

Footy trip From Southampton to Newcastle

It does seem crazy to be installing double head chargers that can only charge 1 car at time but I do believe Gridserve are planning to improve this in the near future. They seem to be concentrating on upgrading the old ecotricity units first and then looking at parking bays to suit the double...

    Charging Issues

There is a Chargemaster app called Chargevision which on the surface initially looks impressive but it rarely works. I definitely wouldn't rely upon it. Unfortunately Chargemaster has gone down hill since BP Pulse took over. They are not interested in the domestic market, or even the public...

    Miles/kWh

At least you are returning home to a 100% guaranteed charge point so that eliminates charger anxiety. By monitoring your m/kWh usage you could always adapt your driving later in the journey if necessary to squeeze the last drops but why? Is it a challenge? Will you be stopping for a break in 200...

    Insurance 🤔

£249 which is 6.9% cheaper than the BMWi3 my ZS replaced last September. This is with Churchill who I have been with for a number of years. 12,000 miles, wife, full NCB, legal assistance, no modifications, south coast, private driveway. The BMW had factory fitted privacy glass to the rear...

    Ending Rapid Charge

I agree it's BP problem but I'm thinking of charger etiquette from a user point of view. We need to help each other and not create unnecessary problems. As Jocko says the next user could be really desperate.

    Ending Rapid Charge

That means the next user will need to phone the support line to get the unit re-booted. Much easier for everybody to phone BP as Nick did and get them to stop the charge. On the odd occasion I have had to phone BP to start the charger and then stop it there has been no cost for the kWh used.

    MG5 Parts Availability

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Not a good start having a failure immediately after collection. I hope the Dealer is supplying a courtesy car at the very least until yours is repaired or even offering a straight replacement? Hopefully the stock of spare parts held in the UK for all...

    Charging station reliabilty

ZapMap is usually pretty good in the current state of a charger but you can never be certain until you arrive. Have you watched Stuart Ws 'How to plan a route" video'? If not it's well worth viewing. Looking at your most likely route A1/M25 I would aim for that cluster of points just north of...

Family reaction to the new car

I have a CYC Rapid near me that is free via Polar RFID for some odd reason? Otherwise it is high connection fee and cost/kWh for other users plus 60 minute limit. I never used it because of the advertised high cost but then found out Polar never charge me?

So many questions about the MG5!

Charging at a rate of 75kWh would only happen (if you are lucky) if the SoC is very low and even then would tail off by 20% SoC to about 47% where it would be around 37kWh until the cliff edge at 80% SoC and then down to 15kWh if you continued beyond 80%. Figures based on ZS and assuming the 5...

    Charging Point connections

In the warmer weather even at lower SOC the most I have ever had is a rate of 35kWh which I was led to believe could be as high as 76kWh for a short time at 17% SOC gradually dropping to 37kWh by 60% SOC to 80% then a cliff edge drop to about 15kWh.

    Charging Point connections

Realistically you will not drop to 0% before re-charging (unless you arrive on the back of a breakdown truck). It is more likely to be around 20% so up to 80% will be around 26kWh at most which is well within an hour on a Rapid charger even in cold weather.

    MG5 finally arrived today

In Zap-Map a previous user complained of that station charge point of being a bit slow. I always find it useful to check the chat for a particular charger before I rely on using it.

    Use of Neutral setting

The BMW i3 does not creep and so any brake is not needed unless on a steeper incline. That is one thing I miss with the MG but then I started using autohold which seems to do the trick. Now I have found out it keeps the brake lights lit I may start using Neutral. Does anybody know why the MG creeps?

MG5 compared with the ZS EV

In 1974 I bought a Sunbeam Tiger (V8 4.2 litre Ford powered) for the princely sum of £600. I had it for 5 or 6 years and sold it for £600 which I was over the moon about. A fully restored example today would be worth ????????

    Charging

Hi Barold that's good advice from Mark. For what it's worth in addition I have subscribed to Polar (now Pulse) for 4 years and monitor my costs each month which average 14p/kWh and includes a mix of Rapid, Free and the monthly £7.85 subscription. I find the convenience of having the RFID to...

    First long journey

If you've managed 55mpg from a Jazz and with your frame of mind already in 'eco' mode you're well on the way to achieving good results from the MG ZS EV. I'm sure you will love it as we do and if it's your first EV then you will be wondering why you didn't make the leap sooner. Enjoy it's a...

    Gap insurance

Fully agree if it gives you peace of mind. But GAP is insurance for the difference between write off value and new price only. In terms of value for money in comparison to your normal (compulsory) insurance which covers up to write off cost AND third party liabilities (almost infinite) then it...
