Just an observation (I don't drive a hybrid): surely there's no point to charging the battery from the engine? It just introduces loss of efficiency in the charger, battery and electric drive train when you eventually use it. Better to use all the petrol engine to move the car and just use brake...

Agreed. When it first came up on mine I thought it was some kind of system fault, until I got home & did a search on this forum.
