V2L switching off after a few seconds ZS EV 2022!

Yeah, I do a mix of 50kW DC charging (Osprey mainly), 7kW charging (mostly at Wycombe Retail Park cos it's 14p/kWh) and granny charging at home. Had very few problems with DC charging, I've only had to pull the release cord a couple of times.

V2L switching off after a few seconds ZS EV 2022!

No, my car doesn't do that. No software updates were applied to my car as part of my 1-year service, so it behaves the same way it did in December 2021 when I took delivery. I'm now thinking - if I don't ask for software updates, I probably won't get software updates (unless it's part of a recall).

V2L switching off after a few seconds ZS EV 2022!

My ZS EV Trophy (delivered December 2021) can do V2L in ready mode or stop mode. In ready mode, the 12V battery is charged, but the DRLs are on and the car cannot be locked. In stop mode, the DRLs are off and the car can be locked, but the 12V battery isn't charged and will go flat after a few...

Vehicle to Load (V2L) - Any Information or First Hand Experiences?

James at EVcables contacted me to say they are now connecting CP to PE (PE=Ground) in addition to the 470 ohm resistor between PP and PE (as in Eclectic's diagram above). It seems that some newer MGs don't like having CP disconnected (floating).

    V2L warning - also discharges 12v battery!

When I had the flat 12v battery (after that 15 hour V2L session), the door locks still worked (sounded a bit sluggish) but the Start/Stop button didn't do anything. I now keep a LiFePO4 jump starter in the car as a flat 12v battery completely disables the car. The jump starter was £45 from Lidl.

    V2L warning - also discharges 12v battery!

Some observations on this thread: 1. I also had a flat 12v battery after a long V2L session (about 15 hours). However, after a shorter V2L session, the 12V battery was OK. It looks like the 12v battery is being charged during V2L, but maybe this times out after a period of time. 2. The V2L...

Vehicle to Load (V2L) - Any Information or First Hand Experiences?

The 2.2kW figure sounds suspiciously like 220V multiplied by 10A - 10A being a safe current to put through a 13A fuse for long periods. I would imagine the inverter has an overpower cutout, but I wasn't willing to push it that far to test it. The inverter does get warm over time - I ran the V2L...

Vehicle to Load (V2L) - Any Information or First Hand Experiences?

Today I connected a couple of heaters to my ZS EV using a V2L cable. I successfully pulled 3kW for 10 or 15 minutes :)

    MG iSmart lower your expectations

Certainly a lithium jump starter is an essential accessory to keep in the car. If the 12v battery goes flat, the car becomes a 2-ton road block. The LiFePO4 units are probably best as you can leave them charged to 100% without worry.

    MG iSmart lower your expectations

The iSmart app stopped working on my car a couple of weeks ago. Then I had the dreaded flat battery (12v lead-acid battery). I connected a little LiFePO4 car jump starter to the battery and got the car 'started'. I put the car on granny charge (which also charges the 12v battery) and to my...

Vehicle to Load (V2L) - Any Information or First Hand Experiences?

Thanks chaps - I bought one. $70 for the cable plus shipping plus VAT - came to $135 USD. I didn't haggle. I'll be taking it apart as soon as I get it.

Vehicle to Load (V2L) - Any Information or First Hand Experiences?

That's the DC output to the battery (230-450V 22A MAX). It has the DC symbol next to it. To coax AC out of the charger, there will be a VERY specific protocol probably sent into the CP input. It looks like a small amount of power can be pulled from the PP pin (connected to 5V via a 300 ohm...

Vehicle to Load (V2L) - Any Information or First Hand Experiences?

@JohnInFrance How do you know the V2L protocol is the same between different vehicle manufacturers? Can you point me to any information on the protocol. Cheers.

Vehicle to Load (V2L) - Any Information or First Hand Experiences?

Ding, I'd be interested in a link to one of those cables. I've been searching far and wide for information on the V2L adapter (and protocol) and have found nothing.

ZS EV Trophy won't charge on Osprey 50kW

Successfully rapid-charged my Trophy for the first time today at Ikea Reading on a Gridserve charger. I didn't stop to check the charge rate, but it went from about 35% to 85% in about 40 minutes. Cost just over £10 (30p/kWh) using a contactless card. I'll try the Osprey chargers at my local...

New models have Vehicle to Load charging

It's been a very long time since I've played with grid tied inverters. My unit had an input suitable for a 36-cell panel - I never tried connecting a 12V battery directly to it. Things may have changed since then (about 10 years ago).

    MG iSmart lower your expectations

Similar experience here. At home, my phone has a good signal (on EE), but the car seems to have a poor signal. Often takes over a minute to connect - in fact I've increased my phone's display timeout to 2 minutes just to allow for the iSmart app's slow response. I get erroneous data too. Often...

New models have Vehicle to Load charging

You can't 'plumb' the V2L output from a vehicle to your house mains. Unlike a solar inverter, V2L mains cannot be synchronised to domestic mains. You can't connect them together.

    Bargain of the Year?

It was unregistered when they offered it to me. Palmers bought it for use as a demo car, but they decided to sell it to me instead.
