Delay paying £190 car tax on EV until April 2026 (action needed before the end of March 2024)

It took a couple of days for mine to appear as March 1st after re-taxing it at the post office.

Delay paying £190 car tax on EV until April 2026 (action needed before the end of March 2024)

I initially asked for a tax form and the postmaster said I just need the V5 and he did it with that. @Rolfe you can drive it as soon as you tax it at the post office as it's covered from the 1st of March 2024, it says so on the receipt.

Delay paying £190 car tax on EV until April 2026 (action needed before the end of March 2024)

I SORNed online then went (walked) round to the post office and retaxed it less than half an hour later. Receipt from post office showed it taxed until 1st March 2025 The DVLA database updated with SORN the next day then updated with taxed the day after.

Delay paying £190 car tax on EV until April 2026 (action needed before the end of March 2024)

Couldn't you still tax it for 6 months in September (is 6 months tax still an option) ? She probably used the reminder which comes early so possibly to start on April 1st.

Delay paying £190 car tax on EV until April 2026 (action needed before the end of March 2024)

I sorned mine then retaxed it the same day at the post office as it's only round the corner. You have to wait 5 days to SORN or tax it online if you've already just done either online. You can do as @MartinSEsr says above.

Delay paying £190 car tax on EV until April 2026 (action needed before the end of March 2024)

I did it the long winded way, sorned it then went round to the post office around the corner and retaxed it, as I didn't know you could retax/renew it when it was still taxed.

    Will NACS win (eventually)?

Mine were 8mm (pre video recorders). 😉

    Will NACS win (eventually)?

It takes me back to the 70s and the Betamax V VHS battle. Betamax was supposedly better quality but VHS won out because more manufacturers supported it.

Poll: Do you charge at home?

I downloaded as many apps as I could when I got my first EV, the ZS, 3 years ago and actually activated some of them. Now, because I have hardly (or never) used many of them, I get emails saying, "we see you haven't charged with us for some time" etc. with offers on pay subscriptions. I mean...

Poll: Do you charge at home?

At home. My EDF EV tariff is 18p/kWh for 8 hours at night and all day Saturday and Sunday. There are cheaper tariffs, 5p at night but for shorter hours and no weekend daytime hours. Edit: It's actually 10 hours at night not 8, 10pm to 8am in Summer and 9pm to 7am Winter.

Same here and that was when it was 44p/kWh (rapid).

    Tesco's Podpoints price increase.

    Cheapest 2 hours parking elsewhere is £1.50. 2 hours (free) parking on the Tesco's charger is at max 6.6kWh x 2 = 13.2kWh. The difference between charging at home off peak at 18p and Tesco's at 28p was 10p/kWh. 13.2 x 10p = £1.32. The difference now at 44p/kWh is 26p, 13.2 x 26p = £3.43.

I got the email today, I was going to reply with, "thanks for the heads up, I now know which chargers to avoid when out and about" :sneaky:

    Tesco's Podpoints price increase.

Because it's not a situation I'm likely to encounter again it's not worth bothering the dealer with it.

    GeniePoint GenieFlex Hike

Ridiculous, that's at least 50% more per mile than an ICE car.

    Tesco's Podpoints price increase.

Convenience of free parking in the town centre whilst shopping in the town and Tesco's. And it was still cheaper than my peak period at home which is 38p. I still have an option of free charging in the town centre (unless that's gone up this week) but have to pay for parking. No thanks, last...
