    MG ZS EV Servicing Costs

The last time I let a garage wash my car whilst servicing it, it needed over £100 spending on rectifying the microswirls they left all over it, needless to say, I no longer let garage wash monkeys clean my car, even insisting they don't whenever it does go in for anything.

    Rusted behind hub caps

As already said, that's fully normal. Every car I've ever owned has done that. I used to work in new car logistics and many cars roll off the ship with the hubs already rusted before they even get sold! If it bothers you, brush the area over with some waxoyl or similar to stop it worsening...

Interesting/worrying story from Scotland - ZS with no brakes.

I don't think it's that, although it does stink. (remainder removed following warning, I was maybe being a bit too harsh!)

Yep, just like the thousands of ICE that burn every week, not a peep about that...

    Dealers Cull - Sad Day

It is indeed a shame, especially as some of the larger dealer groups are just hideous to deal with. The same happened to all the small Skoda dealerships back in the '90's after VW took control. They were often in villages with a 1 or 2 car showroom and gave great service.

Interesting/worrying story from Scotland - ZS with no brakes.

With the main brakes failed, you simply remove your foot from the throttle pedal and apply and hold the parking brake switch, it'll make an awful noise and shudder and you'll stop within a few 100 yards at the very most. The fact this reads as if the driver continued to charge ahead for ages...

Interesting/worrying story from Scotland - ZS with no brakes.

Yeah, because they'll print that... :( The video shows his car without a mark on it, strange that, after ramming a police van under power and bieng forced into stopping by the vans brakes. What a steaming pile of BS

Interesting/worrying story from Scotland - ZS with no brakes.

Its almost certainly a fantasist looking for clicks. He's got form for it, this "type of thing" seems to happen to him regularly! Its just made up rubbish, but the car in one of the pictures is a ZS EV

    End of a (short) era

Did I see elsewhere, you sold it to them for £24500? If so, that's a very reasonable price and mark up. I sold my ZS EV to them a couple of years back and they were very good at the time.

    New (late 2021) ZS EV

Good result. It's shocking how easily dealers will happily throw vast piles of our money away for nothing given the chance!

    End of a (short) era

You'll be back in 11 years with a 10 year old cyberster, I'll put money on it lol!!

New car tomorrow! What should I be checking?

Check all over the bodywork carefully. When I went to pick up my new ZS a couple of years ago it had a dent under the window on the tailgate and damage to both bumpers. I very nearly missed the damage but spotted it just in time!

Have you got any rust on your MG ZS EV?

Dealers in general get away with doing what they like far too often. Manufacturers need to use a bigger stick and wield the ultimate sanction of kicking them out as a dealer if they give consistent poor customer service.

Have you got any rust on your MG ZS EV?

Don't be concerned, all steel suspension components get covered in surface rust after a couple of years on any cars used through the winter. They only start out with a cheap black paint dip and are heavy components that will usually last the life of the car. If the corrosion bothers you, they...

Steering gone on my 2021 ZS EV

I don't think the Chinese think that way. More like they now know 1%, or whatever, of the steering joints are going to be faulty, but will fit them all anyway to save money and those who notice and complain about it will get them changed out under warranty, less fussy owners who don't notice...

    Driver Side Grab Handle

Be Cautious here!! On my 2020 not only were there no retaining holes, there was not even any metalwork behind the grab handle recess, so the roof pressing must be different between LHD/RHD, at least on some cars.

Steering gone on my 2021 ZS EV

Well, that does surprise me, I stand corrected.

Steering gone on my 2021 ZS EV

Bosch make the control motor/servo/electronic control. They will certainly not be making the column metalwork or UJ's. I've never, ever, seen a failure of this type, stiff, rusted, or loose worn joints over time, sure, but catastrophic failure like this is shocking.

    Cost savings between petrol/diesel/electric

Entirely agree, I just think there are far, far, less people doing that sort of trip pattern daily than most realise. Vast majority are short duration commuters day to day.

    Cost savings between petrol/diesel/electric

I start off by advising it costs me about 10% of the cost compared to running a similar ICE car. If I can convince them I'm not joking this usually has one of two effects. They suddenly get very curious indeed, or they get visibly annoyed and find an excuse to not carry on the conversation, it's...
