So you'd advocate all the MG owners on here to move to a different car come replacement time?
My view is to do what the OP appears to be doing, which is assess your needs, research the available products, take a test drive and make decision based on heart and head together. No good buying...
I've heard some nonsense in my time....
If the problem was purely due to overfilling then MG would never have gone to the trouble of designing and fitting a new breather on ANY car,
There are 3 possible explanations for the fact that some cars have had the issue reported and others have not...
Yeah, that's what they told me too. They are very careful in not saying exactly how the matter has been resolved but when pushed it seems their 'solution' is just to put a bit less oil in and swap breather only if owners complain. Problem is that likely means that you get a soiled driveway and...
Bjorn seemed to like it. He raved about ride and seemed happy with performance. He had nicer seats that we get in the UK but still felt it was a bit cheap inside.
Downsides for him were the charging speed never getting over about 80 kWh even in ideal conditions, LKA being borderline...
Did you ask if it will come with the new breather, or will you be expected to return to have it checked and photographed, then return a second time to have it fitted when it does?
The apparent variation in oil leaks I can explain.
In order to leak the transmission first needs sufficient oil, secondly the pressure has to be raised which causes the air (and suspended oil) to be expelled.
Filled to specification, and taken on a long fast road trip I believe all cars would...
I have no inside knowledge and agree it is actually a pretty good car. The frustration is it could easily be a bloody good one if MG would resolve a couple of silly little things.
Whether MG were acting purely out of the goodness of their hearts, because they had a gun to their head or in...
FTFY.
There were consequences in not dealing with the lock issue which might have been as severe as losing their licence to trade in the UK.
Good customer service comes from wanting to do the 'right thing' to meet reasonable expectation, not just what you do with a gun to your head.
But a prospective buyer should not have to put faith in hope. We know what the problem it. We know how to fix it, and the cost of that fix is very modest.
To be expected to take a vehicle that WILL leak if conditions dictate is unacceptable. You then have to inspect at regular intervals...
I have seen a few images of the new breather but none in situ. I suspect realistically you might need the car on a ramp to be able to see if the new breather had in fact been fitted. Maybe ask for a quick video to be taken by dealer while they have it on the ramp?
Does the TSB say to replace breather even if leak not yet identified? Sounds like a sensible course of action if that is the case because it is likely that cars that haven't yet leaked will do (assuming they have sufficient oil) when driven far and fast enough.
My dealer was adamant last week...
