    Welcome back warm weather

I had a round trip drive in London on 6 April. It was 19 deg C. I achieved 5.4 miles/kWh for that 2h 30 miles trip mainly in 20 miles zone. Mine is a ZS LR. MG4 should be more efficient.

MG4 not connecting to App - no network signal

When my mobile had network problem, I would reboot my phone. Have you tried to reboot your infotainment system? ZS EV can be rebooted by holding home button for 10 seconds for solving iSmart connection issue. I think MG4 might be the same.

    New MG4 Shipment?

SAIC Anji Sincerity, which is a dual fuel ro-ro ship, passed canary islands and Morocco off west Africa on her maiden voyage. She avoided Yemen for safe shipping of 7000 MG cars to Europe. Not sure if there is any car for 24reg in UK.

Range decrease due to cold weather [merged thread]

My ZS is not as efficient as MG4. My 3300miles average is 3.9 miles/kWh since March 2023. I can still reach 4.0 on commuting at 1°C to 5°C with minimum heater usage in London in winter. I got 3.1 miles/kWh for motorway + heater at 1°C. It took one hour to drive 50 miles include getting into...

    Charging energy consumption

I used Kasa energy monitor to measure/control granny charger. Charger was typically consuming 2.4 kW while car was taking 2kW. My ZS LR could be toppped up 3% every hour. My house voltage was 245v when charging. Now I am using Ohme ePod charger for. I noticed charger continued charging for...

Charger + Octopus, recommended combos please.

I am using Ohme ePod with Octopus Intelligent Go. Ohme ePod is probably smallest charger without tethered charging cable. Two engineers from Octopus Energy installed it for me.

Stationary but the power meter shows 3-5.

If you drive an automatic ICE car, car will move forward if you release the foot brake or nearly release the brake. Electric car would do the same. Light touch brake can creep forward. It will save energy if you depress foot brake harder.

Benefit of heated battery and heated garage

Well. Normally I drove with normal mode. I sacrificed comfort just to see how the performance is in cold with ECO mode. I traveled from London to Cambridge with ECO drive mode on ZS LR today. London to Cambrdge: 4.1 miles/kWh 4°C, one driver no paasenger, almost no heating and A/C, 40miles/h...

Benefit of heated battery and heated garage

3.9 miles/kWh does is not high with heated parking compare with my outside parking. My short trip is with low 2miles/kWh. My 10 miles trips are around 4.0 miles/kWh (3.8, 4.1, 4.0, 4.0) in London with freezing weather in last two days of November: battery heater off Park outside with top...

if you ever wonder what is the REAL range of 100%-0% in the SR ... you'll be surprised by this experiment.

Thank for the video about battery. I shall keep my LR battery (possibly MNC type) with 50% to 80% SOC for prolong battery life. Britain had coldest November since 2010. It was frosty morning in London in last two days. I was amazed that my ZS LR could still achieve 3.8 to 4.1 miles/kWh in 0°C...

I did not find any official record of battery type. I did some research. I understood my battery should last 20-30 years with weekly or fortnightly charging whatever the battery type.

My UK 23 Reg ZS LR is with 72. 6kWh battery. I have no idea about battery type. Official WLTP is 273 miles. My meter estimated 351 miles range, short from official max 370 miles city range. Thanks for the interesting experiment. Maybe I should enjoy luxury more instead of checking efficiency.

The test proves MG official figure of efficiency is modest. I think charging loss is about 10%. Official battery size should be correct. Extra miles are squeezed out from un-usable capacity. My average efficency is 4.0 miles/kWh (6.4km/kWh or 15.5kWh/100km) with ZS LR in London for 8 months of...

    12v battery and Noco booster

Doors can be opened by quick double pull of handle without driver unlock. I do not have 12v battery problem. I guess that iSmart running at background might keep polling car status, which might drain battery.

MG Wall Charger: How Hot Does Yours Get?

My Ohme ePod wall charger is 5℃ hotter at case than wall at chill temperature of 10℃. My isolator switch for charger with 6m㎡ cable is 7.4℃ hotter in understairs cupboard. Before I install wall charger, I use TPLink energy monitor plug for smart charging with portable charger come with my MG...

    API integration

I do not think the thieves controlled the cars wirelessly. I saw thieves crouched down at front corner of car. Maybe wires are clipped under wheel arch where they could cut open and tap?

    API integration

Just a cold comment when I read this interesting topic, not for hijacking. I saw videos of car thefts from our neighbourhood watch group. I guess the thieves hacked into car system. Car lights were turned on several times before they got into the car. They were not MG cars. One was Korean...

Silver is easier to maintain. I have not fully washed my car yet after more than 6 month of owership. It is almost looks as day 1 apart from a few spots which can be wiped off. Sahara desert dusts coating was washed away by rain. Black plastic protective cover on wheel arch gethered most mud...

    Home charging point

Charging EV or charge us 7.5p/kWh on IO tariff? For Octopus to make money and to save us money, I think we should leave car longer on charger. So Octopus can choose charge our EVs when there is less demand. Peak electricity cost the most. Octopus still need to pay for electricity as commodity...

    Home charging point

Installed Ohme ePod from Octopus for £895+SPD for £80. I waited two weeks for installation. I switched from EON after 17 years. It took 6 weeks to confirm switching, to get smart meter reading on Octopus app and to start using Octopus Intelligent tariff. I enabled "do not pay more than...
